thanksApril 18, 2018 at 10:58 AM #574501I'm not a tech by any means but if your talking about the programs themselves some can you may get around it different ways with cracks and stuff or not being connected to the internet while installing the program so it don't phone home I'm sure others around here have better knowledge about this stuff than me 🙂

thanks for the infoApril 18, 2018 at 12:20 PM #574566I always thought Daz installing software could remember what youve installed. One reason I never use it. Also updating a program reads the old program to see if its the latest version. While it may not directly scan all files, if there is an install log it only needs to read one.
I know very little about software mechanics but it seems like it would be easy if you allow a program to install and update stuff.
April 18, 2018 at 5:27 PM #574825Like everyone else said, "not really", but I'd add "it would depend"... Sure, DAZ Studio wants to keep tabs on what's in your runtime(s), but, it can't really stop you from using those assets if you stay offline...
However, and this is just an educated guess, so take it with a bit of salt, I can't say the same for cases like Poser 11, for example, where even in legit purchasers, some of the updates half ruined their runtimes... furthermore, if we're discussing 3DSMax proprietary format models, then, for all I know, the latest versions may have some kind of authentication code, added in the file itself.
That said, however, that kind of authentication would lock down the model(s) in question, not the software. Any software lockdown would more mean that there's a problem with the software's own authentication. A crack that isn't efficient, or you didn't block it from reaching its mother servers, or something in that field. -
