I was wondering @Tomsk were is your art contest for January ? did I miss the post for it ? I can't seem to find it , I am always the same as a lot of other members here looking forword to your next art challenge they are fun 🙂

You're not wrong, I didn't start an art contest this month.
As we already have 2 currently underway, I'm waiting for now.
I've already spoken about this with Rob, and this is what I said in our conversation:

I’ve grown a little jaded with the competitions I’ve been running and I’m pleased others are taking up the torch so to speak.The amount of negativity, the lack of enthusiasm and participants seems (to me at least) to have been growing these last few months. I hope to continue with them but I am at a loss as how to proceed, maybe inspiration will strike?"
Continuing in this vein having read the recent comments on Robs contest thread, it seems to me that more and more time is spent these days complaining about the content and quality of the entries. Yet those who do the complaining have never entered a single contest if I am correct?
As for deciding upon the winners it's always going to bring it's own negativity.
- Judges - A panel of judges seems to be frowned upon.
- Member voting - This also seems to draw claims of bias for friends or 'skin'.Do those people who like to claim they are 'critical thinkers' have a better way of determining the winners?
Or are they going to just continue with their 'critical thinking'?It seems to me that no matter what we do with our competitions, someone will always be unhappy in some way. So...
...Instead of complaining I invite these individuals to change their 'critical thinking' into 'constructive criticism'!
Otherwise, if they're not going to take part, or help change things, shut the hell up!
One other thing occurs to me...
I wonder if we'd even have art contests if I hadn't started them all those months ago?
Who knows!
@Tomsk don't let some you know whats bother you we like your contests there is a couple of others going on right now so maybe you are better off waiting to start a new one.
IF PEOPLE think they can do a better job y don't they host one ? and see what "critical thinkers " have to say about their contest their winners I tried my hand at it i had no required product no required theme and let all members vote for the winners and i still got complaints.
As far as what wins and what does not muddy, lack of lighting ect who's to say that's not the look the person was going for and it was liked.

I started one and practically emptied my point wallet to try and encourage people to join in. Learned a few lessons from the first and definitely planning on more for the future cause it's fun.
I haven't really looked at past contests though the entries I've seen in the contest I've got up so far I'm really impressed with so I figure, eh...haters gonna hate. As long as the rest of us are having fun, who cares? 😉
@coolcat, I was seriously thinking the same thing! Perhaps a "Critical Thinker" could host their own contest with their own rules and recruit their own panel of judges. By the way, your contest was awesome and I hope you give it a go again in the future.

@robf4g210 I was thinking about hosting an other one but I'm not sure when or if I will. It would be different from the last it would have a theme and a group of "critical Thinkers" for judges lol
🙂Rank:Someone will always be unhappy. Some people think overly highly of themselves and think they can do everything better but in the end only complain. When running contests and the likes it's always best to simply ignore the people that complain.
So they did not like the winners? Good for them, they are welcome to try their own hand or be quiet. I'd go as far as just deleting their posts as they add nothing to the discussion of the competition and go on with whatever you doing with the people that appreciate it.
There's a lot of critical people here who seem to have no comprehension of the term 'Critical thinking'. Why would Constructive Criticism be any more helpful when most critical people here would only see it as destructive criticism?.
Im not saying this to make people feel bad, rather to encourage improvement.Personally, if someone arranges or sponsors a competition I think they have the final say on how it's run and judged. If someone has a difference of opinion then they should arrange something themselves so that they have control. I think you're besmirching the term "critical thinker" by using it to refer to people that just disagree with how a competition's run and I think "petty" is a better term.
As for constructive criticism, I'm always for it and I urge other people to make their voice heard, even the judges of said competitions. If people said what they liked and why they liked it I think it would clear up a lot of "misunderstandings" about some of these competitions. Not everyone understands that people have different tastes and different things appeal to them. Feedback I feel is always a good thing as it helps you to improve and although sometimes hard to hear it's necessary if you want to get better.
Maybe if we had the competition, announced the winners and then left the discussion open for feedback on the art or it might be better if we had the entries entered into the artzone for individual feedback if they wanted it?
Blind contest makes it more interesting since most of you probably know other peoples style and abilities by looking at them anyway. Blind adds a bit of "I wonder" to spice it up.

one in, in a couple days.Since my post about appreciating Robs blind voting got everyone in an uproar, let me just say, I wasn't complaining per se. I have entered a few contests since becoming a member, and don't care if I win. (Except the banner contest. That would've been hella cool. heh heh).
However, I was also talking about across the internet and just not specifically here. And not once have I ever mentioned anything about judges or a panel of judges. Only the member voting.
I appreciate all those who hold contests.
SO, unless there is strictly blind voting by members or, since it was mentioned, blind voting by a judge or panel of judges, and or blind voting by a single or panel of judges that are professional artists, the bias will always be there. It hasn't stopped me from entering contests here though. It is what it is and people can enter if they choose, or not.
There's no law stating I can't appreciate a blind voting process.
I'm just not a fan of open member voting.Damned if you do and damned if you don't. There is a small group, very small who seem to spend more time criticizing rather than doing any thing constructive. Put up or shut up. If this site and the way people do things are not to your liking then you do something positive instead of whinging, moaning and groaning. I love the contests unfortunately either don't have time or have been too sick to spend the time on competing in them. And yes, @tomsk I do feel that if you had not started the competions we probably would not have any. They are great at getting people to think outside the box. Get out your comfort zone, participate. Don't like the contest, shut up and let others enjoy them without the negativity.
Sorry but I do seem to have a very low tolerance for people that seem to show ingratitude nearly every time they open their mouths.
