After a long hiatus after the last general issue of 4.9.4.122, there is now a new Public beta launched, for those of us who are interested. 🙂
4.10.0.94 BETA
Available free at your local DIM Installer. 🙂
This time apart from the usual tweaks & upgrades there is another stab at Dynamic Clothing.
October 9, 2017 at 7:11 PM #357317Hallelujah they finally kicked that ridiculous Optitex crap to the curb.
October 9, 2017 at 10:06 PM #357411Okay, because I can't edit my previous post, I'm going to give my quick thoughts on this:
This is pretty darn impressive. It might not be as perfect as Marvelous Designer, in terms of simulation, but for what it is, it's promising! Has a ton of potential already, even if you can only do clothing at this point. I'd imagine hair will be coming down the pike eventually.
Tried dForce-ing an older Fabiana dynamic (Hidden Winds poncho) and it worked surprisingly well, so you may be able to use Poser dynamics with this. And yes, any clothing can be dForced, so you don't need something like DynCreator or converting things to OBJ to work.
That said, I think it could use a bit more work in a few spots. A shame you can't pull or manipulate the mesh like you can in MD, but ehhhh... I don't mind importing a dForced draped garment to OBJ and into MD for a couple tweaks. Give it a few days to a week, and I'm sure there'll be more thorough tutorials out there. Fingers crossed SickleYield does a YT tutorial.
I've only barely touched Blender's cloth dynamics, I can't use Virtual World Dynamics due to the OS I use (Mac), and I got frustrated with Poser's, so I can't compare all four fairly. Sorry.
But despite it being an early beta, it's by far and away so much better than the proprietary Optitex garbage system they'd been saddled with for the last couple years. Though I think most of us can agree that anything is better than the Optitex system, lmao.
October 9, 2017 at 10:27 PM #357418Sounds like progress fair to good progress then 🙂
October 9, 2017 at 10:48 PM #357427@eelgoo Yep!
Also, Mada (a PA) made this quick video tutorial about using weight maps to keep things from getting pulled off or distorted during a dForce sim:
She talks pretty softly, but for a free, on-the-fly tutorial? I'd say it does the trick for now.
October 10, 2017 at 7:41 PM #358288Looks like it is quite a step forward.
