If any of you young'ns ever wanted to see a real live website from 20 years ago, or if you just want a nostalgic rush and a fair helping of free Poser models, check out this place I found:
https://lab108.x0.com/lab108/index.htmlAmazing that the x0 domain still exists, it's very reminiscent of the Japanese Geocities sites of yore.
Another one I stumbled across:
https://sasuke.nomaki.jp/poser/free/free_zakka/free_zakka.html
Again, more free Poser files, V4/Aiko4, and lots of webring links, though it seems most of those affiliate sites are long gone.Enjoy!

May 29, 2025 at 8:24 PM #2130598May 29, 2025 at 11:17 PM #2130603I don't miss any of those items except those brilliant restraint from Reika.
May 30, 2025 at 3:40 AM #2130612@stahlratte: that's MayaX on Rendo.
https://www.renderosity.com/marketplace/vendors/MayaXWant a real mindf#k? Compare the prices. 400-500 yen ($2.75-$3.50) on Japanese site vs. $12.00 -$20.00 for the gaijin on Ren-D'OH. Xenophobic price scale, anyone? :p
Kinda reminds me of the "free" model downloads on Nico Nico Seiga and others where you had to solve arcane Japanese riddles to unlock the d/l passwords. Foreigners KEEP OUT!
May 31, 2025 at 1:53 AM #2130690Not many sites last that long Amber. This site is only a gallery but has been around since I first started 3D 20+ years ago. He made some of the clothes but they were never for download.
May 31, 2025 at 3:10 AM #2130698Very interesting gallery, minimalist but really interesting compositions. Too bad so many broken image links.
May 31, 2025 at 3:59 AM #2130701The image links look broken but if you click on them they work. Polin's style was pretty much consistently faded industry and isolation. I think in those old days you couldn't put much else into you scene other than one character and a few props. Back then you needed to patch Poser to work with more than 1GB of SYSRAM (not VRAM). When I went to 2GB I had to DL the patch for P4 to work.
June 3, 2025 at 6:14 PM #2131116Here's one from 2000-2003? Still has downloadable wings for Poser that are probably useful since they claim to be universal.
June 4, 2025 at 4:33 AM #2131169The page says 1998. Yep, that's how I remember my first taste of the web... stark white, and minimal formatting with jaggy GIF images and live counters. Also the instructions to use your Back button. Wow.
Unfortunately, the "Universal Wings 2" files are (were) only available through membership in the forum, which no longer exists. If I did Facebag which I don't), I might be tempted to follow the redirect to their page.
The tutorial wings file is still live though.June 4, 2025 at 8:43 AM #2131192Universal Wings 2 + Textures

June 5, 2025 at 2:35 AM #2131276proof that old files never die, they just get archived :p
June 6, 2025 at 1:55 PM #2131450I was going to make a post referencing archiving and mention my 30 year old site on Geocities (fashion avenue). While looking up the date of Geocities demise I stumbled into Neocities ( https://neocities.org/#new ). I'd seen the place some years ago but they expected users to learn command line HTML editing. I made a HUGE stink about making it accessible via any one of numerous WYSIWYG editors. It's great to see that they've adopted the suggestion. Gonna get busy and put my old site back up! Yippee!, that means I'm a real person again.
June 7, 2025 at 2:14 AM #2131493LOL somewhere there's a fairly large archive of Geocities sites, can't remember what it's called, but I remember finding my old Geocities crap embedded in there like Han Solo in carbonite. Pure cringe. Even cringier are my usenet posts from the 90s. They still exist too.
If you want your own web presence on the cheap, go for something like Heliohost, you have much greater control over it.
