Hi guys,
I was wondering it it was any chances you can split the content of the Daz library of assets over a second hard drive, eventually making a gateway between the two folders (In case like me, you downloaded a shitload of stuff and your current one is close to be full), and yet, having the software working properly.
Thanks. 🙂

August 31, 2024 at 4:39 AM #2088697I've got my library split into a dozen categories over two drives and it works fine.
(The only reason I use two drive is defraging a gazillion small daz files is a day long grind.)October 22, 2024 at 9:36 AM #2097063Hello there!
Resurecting my old topic for a related question. Thanks again to everyone who gave pe tips before. 🙂
I succefully splitted the library onto two drive, but I noticed since then, that the search feature is no longer working properly, at least on the part of the library moved to the other HDD. Did I missed some feature to enable, or is is normal and a collateral dammage you can't really dodge when doing this trick ?October 22, 2024 at 10:43 AM #2097065Ah thanks!
Looks like I will have to get a "secondary" HDD dedicated to Data/runtime/etc. All this sh*t is over 1,5 To.
But at least it will allow me to not reinstall Daz from scratch and redo all libraries by hand to sort things out.
Many thanks! 🙂October 22, 2024 at 1:27 PM #2097083That would fix the problem for sure, but I confess, having to reinstall 2To of content, recreate all custom subfolders, etc. kinda set me off.
Guess it will be a third HDD for now. 🙂October 22, 2024 at 1:42 PM #2097089IF you have to start anyway, better to change the foldername/structure in the zip. so all you have to do after that is search for zips, extract all.
It is painstaiking, but only needs to be done once. I started on 8TB( unzip, rename/reoder, zip again):SOctober 22, 2024 at 2:01 PM #2097092If DS isn't 'seeing' the remote drive, right click Daz Studio formats, and select 'Add Base Directory', navigate to it & select.
October 22, 2024 at 9:51 PM #2097138Mmmm It doesn't seems to activate the search option on the secondary folder, even if now it's located In Daz libraries. Closed Daz and reopened it, no change. I'll see on tomorrow if rebooting the computer is changing something.
October 22, 2024 at 10:29 PM #2097144I always work from the Content Library pane & navigate to the relevant folder I'm looking for.
October 23, 2024 at 7:40 AM #2097195Splitting your library is a must whan having a lot of characters from the same Genesis generation.
Otherwise, loading one will take forever since Daz loads all the morphs from the same library every time you load a new character into your scene.
October 23, 2024 at 8:57 PM #2097287The only scenario when it makes sense to split user-facing files from the data/runtime files in separate drives is if you are using file-based search inside the studio. For database-based search, which is used by default, it really doesn't matter.
However, the cost is increased vulnerability to drive failures. Since any drive in this setup failing causes the entire content to be lost, the average failure rate of the library rises with the number of drives used.
October 25, 2024 at 7:12 PM #2097630Thanks for all the tips. 😉
Looks like I won't escape getting a third SSD to put the Runtime/Data stuff then put all the content stuff in the old folder. Search is still not working, not a big deal now I'm aware of the reason it's not working and you guys gave me a workaround 🙂 -
