Hi all. So I have a fair amount of assets. My C Drive was filling up, so I had to create an additional directory on another hard drive.
The assets are there. Daz recognizes them. When I search for them in the Content Library search bar, they pop up. I can load them into the scene. No issues there.
The problem is that I have to browse in two locations for my G8F clothes or whatever. At present I have my main (too full) Daz Asset library folder in the usual place. The second one is on the G drive (my other m.2 drive). So if I want to find creator Joe Schmoe's such and such outfit for G8F, I have to click through "People", "Genesis 8 Female", "Clothing", and "Joe Schmoe" in two folders to find "Slutty Outfit". Not there in this folder? Well I have to do another 13 clicks to see if it's under Joe Schmoe's content on the other drive. It's a PITA.
Is there a way to fix this so it's all in one place, even if the content is on two different drives?
August 4, 2023 at 10:05 AM #2008696The short answer is no. At least not without an awful lot of work on your part.
You could use the the category system (at the bottom of the content browser window), but you'll probably have to manually assign every single item to a category. And then do it with every new piece of content you add. AFAIK there is no way to automate it.
The simpler, messier option is to get yourself the largest hard drive you can find/afford and merge the contents of your two runtimes on it. It doesn't need to be an SSD or M.2, a mechanical drive works fine and won't affect load times that much.
Or, you could start from scratch and organise your runtimes via type (clothes, props, environments, morphs etc) or by figure (g3f, g3m, g8f etc) or whatever cataloging system works for you. That's the 'correct' way of doing it, but it assumes that you don't have several years worth of content already installed.
Personally, I've got three runtimes; the 'My Library' one which I use for stuff I've created myself or for often-used characters/poses etc, one stupidly large runtime (SLR) with stuff I've been collecting for years because I never bothered to set up separate runtimes early enough, and one for the pervy stuff from 'rotica. Inside my SLR/people/Gxx/clothing folders, I've added new folders like 'casual', 'dresses', 'underwear', 'swimsuits' and, every few months, spend a couple of hours moving stuff around so it's in the right place. Having one SLR also means it's only one thing to backup.
August 6, 2023 at 11:28 PM #2009839I am not sure I get your setup, so I hope you don't mind if I ask a few questions to get my head around your issue.
You have your primary content library on your c: drive which filled up. You made a second content library on a 2nd drive and started installing there. I presume you are manually installing using your own filing system, and not using DIM to install?
You have added the new content library to the content directory manager and Daz is seeing the assets in the content library pane. This is the part I do not understand.
You say you have to browse to one location on the 1st drive to see if the asset is located there, if not rinse repeat on the new secondary content library location.
Can you not just browse directly to the installed content via the product tab of the content pane (forgive me if I have the tab name incorrect as I am at work and cannot check my Daz setup). By my understanding it should show all assets alphabetically wherever they are installed.

Product tab? The one all the way at the bottom? I mean, I suppose I could, but I usually forget who each product was created by, the name of the product, etc. When I'm looking at the clothing, I don't usually have a specific product in mind. I want a summer dress, or something for fall, some pajamas, whatever. So I'm browsing through a big old list. I'd rather have all clothing products made for G8F in one menu under "People, G8F, clothing". That kind of thing. I have to go through the G3F sometimes, but I'd rather at least have only two menus to sift through rather than four: a G8F and G3F on the C drive and another G8F and G3F on the G drive if that makes sense. If I'm searching in that bar, I may get the item and the material presets, but I'm missing the morph for her butt flap on the G8F romper pajamas being open, if that makes sense.
August 7, 2023 at 1:05 AM #2009855.. if you do not have duplicate products in both the directories, then why not just move all the content in C drive to your other library.. there will be a few time you might have to overwrite files that are shared between folders, but you should be fine..
.. or if you want to be extra careful, try this on an entirely different location.. copy the content in C drive to a different location and then copy the other one over that.. check if all are fine.. if you are satisfied, then go ahead and move your content in C drive to the other location..
August 7, 2023 at 2:46 AM #2009860There are a few folders you better not touchm but.... Things like characters, clothes, hair, poses, can be "swapt" form one lib to the next. Do not do this with data or runtime folders!!
Organisation is always a thing in the beginning. I have al my setup ena zip files ordered.Example
Genesis 8 Female/clothes/ Dress
Genesis 8 Female/clothes/ Shoes
Genesis 8 Female/clothes/ Jacket
So If I reinstal I go to Genesis 8 Female/clothes/ Jacket, Select al zipfiles, unzip them in a temp folder. You would get something like
Content/people/genesis 8 female/Clothing/ and then all folders with dresses
I Add a Dress folder to above and cut/paste all content in Clothing in that folder.
Now I copy The content of the content folder to my main G8F lib and if I open all dresses are neatly in a dress folder under clothes.August 7, 2023 at 3:18 AM #2009864gladson's suggestion is exactly what I'd do. Moving a mountain of stuff from one M.2/NVMe to another should be reasonably quick.
Too late now but this is a good reason to manually install and re/name content so you know where it is and what you've called it. Daz created the problem by not enforcing a strict folder naming protocol on PAs who are allowed to nest/renest content within multiple folders where you have no idea how to find items. Then LOL invented so-called Smart Content trying to fix the problem that created..... dumb.
To take your example, the Slutty Outfit should be People/Genesis 8 Female/Clothing/Slutty Outfit and not nested within a stupid PA vanity folder. I've currently got 832GB in my runtime folder and if I hadn't manually installed everything I'd have no idea how to find anything.August 7, 2023 at 8:58 AM #2009965 -
