    While browsing the latest posts I noticed the White Palace just posted today and followed the link to Daz. Well holy snappin buttholes! This set is kick-me-in-the-jewels, punch-me-in-the-face amazing and is absolutely, completely, positively, perfectly the exact place I've been wanting ever since the early days of Poser. I religiously browse all the vendor sites every day and can't imagine having missed this. When did it come out? The Dream Home was nice but THIS place blows it into the gutter. When I showed it to my girls they all peed their cute little panties in excitement. We can't wait to have some fun adventures in our new digs.
    A great, huge and massive thank you to @wallbound for blowing 90 bucks on this and sharing it here with all of us. I sent him a bunch of extra points for it because 50 measly points just doesn't seem like enough. Because I firmly believe that folks like PW Productions deserve our patronage, I'm saving my monthly 3D budget to eventually buy this set.

    @frank22
    , does this partially negate my 'butthead' award?

    While I agree that this was very generous of @wallbound, it saddens me to see such a high-quality asset get released into the wild within hours of its release. As you say, @ethiopia, the PW Productions folks deserve to make some money to offset their time and well-spent effort, so I would have preferred to see it hit the blog a few weeks from now.

    That's not to say that it could not have been shared sooner in a more limited way. At the time it was posted to the blog there were already 40,000 points being offered for this item in the Requests forum thread, for instance, and as the filler of the request it would have been up to @wallbound to decide how long to wait thereafter before posting it to the blog, and to ask that no one else share the item in the meantime. That's probably as close as we come to a "controlled release" around here.

    I worry about the message this sends to PAs when they go all-out to produce something spectacular like this and it gets immediately broadcast to all the pirate sites. We often complain, here, about the generally mediocre quality of a lot of the assets being produced these days, but frankly what incentive are we giving PAs to put in the time and effort to do more? If I were PW Productions I would be very disheartened, and would take away the message that it's better for me to produce quick-and-easy items in quantity than waste my time developing high-quality items.

    TL;DR: Let the PAs make back some money for a couple of weeks after a new release before posting an asset to the blog. That's their prime earning period in the marketplaces, and they use the sales numbers from that period as feedback to decide whether to make more assets like that or switch to something else. Share privately in the meantime, e.g. in the Requests forum, with a no-resharing policy to limit the spread until you're ready to post it to the blog.

    @queensknight, I do that with all my releases if it's a new product. I waited 10 days before posting the greenhouse. It would be nice if we could specify how long a post would sit before being posted. For big stuff like the White Palace, A feel that a month would be appropriate.

    @ethiopia, agreed. At least a couple of weeks between release and posting to the blog. Even worse, once it hits the blog, it's going to spread to the leech sites within hours, making it even worse for the PA.

    edit: just checked and it's now in the wild at the usual sites.

    The more I think about it the more I feel we should formalize this practice here. I'll start a thread.

    I usually wait a few months. The Ironmechs I just uploaded, I've been sitting on for a while. As someone that actually works in 3D Game Dev, I know how it is.

    TBH, my first surprise was that the request thread was initiated with just 500pts for such an asset, then the 2nd shock was what @queensknight mentioned above... which saddened me as well... So as a 'matter of routine' in here, where's our 'Pirate Code' ?

    People that will but will buy. People that wont buy wont buy. Not sure how much youre saving an artist by delaying a release. If you really want to save them money its probably better not to post at all. It is a nice thought though.
