As I said in a previous post, I lost my entire Daz library, but managed to recover most of it successfully. However, some of the assets don't work the way the should and I've had to re download many of them. For example, some of the materials no longer work and the figures (Genesis 3 to be exact) loaded looking fragmented. The Apollonia dress behaved the same way, and some items even pick up the textures that are already in place on the figure. For example, when I loaded a female character and the African headdress (which both looked fine) followed by a dress, the dress in question loaded textured with the materials of the headdress. I guess it has to do with some of the assets being corrupted or damaged during the recovery process. Also, when I preview some of the assets, they all have this uniform magenta colour, skin, clothing, hair - they're all this one texture less colour. Just wondering if anyone else has had this issue. And if so, is there a quicker way of fixing it besides replacing the damaged assets. Also, some other items loaded as primitives, and this was fixed only when I re downloaded them and installed them again.
March 25, 2023 at 11:03 PM #1946761@reinecarola without seeing it directly, it's tough to pinpoint, but I agree with @ethiopia in that it's a strong possibility that some of the image files are corrupted because they didn't recover correctly (or possibly the .duf files, but less likely) but you can verify all this by first trying to open the image files for the asset in an image viewer or editor software and make sure they look ok. That would be step 1. If all is good, step 2 open the other files like dufs. They should open with any normal text editor unless they are compressed. If they are compressed, use an unzip software first and then view the uncompressed file in the text editor, just quickly scroll through the file to end just making sure its not a bunch of strange random characters. If it looks like regular good text, that file is prob good also. If the images and text files look good we can look further, but gotta start at square 1 first to rule out the most likely.
March 25, 2023 at 11:31 PM #1946767@ethiopia @gts6 Thanks for the feedback guys. I thought that might be the problem and was hoping for a quick solution. Unfortunately, there isn't one. However, most of my assets are fine, so I won't have to hunt down too many items. I'm still pretty cut up over the last HDD failure because the assets there were so old I can't even find any active torrents anymore. :/

Happy huntingMarch 26, 2023 at 9:40 AM #1946935If any of your old assets are from over 15/20 years ago I might have some.
I have a bunch of cd's with stuff on, but they are back home in UK - I am working abroad at present but will be back to visit late June.If you want to send a link with a word/pdf of your interests [and offered to anyone else that has had this sort of upheaval] I can look through them when I get back.
March 26, 2023 at 10:10 AM #1946956Thanks @gaver, I'll have a look there. @fuzzy3000 Yeah, there is some old stuff from RDNA and earlier Vicky and Michael stuff as well as props. Thanks for helping out guys. 🙂
March 26, 2023 at 5:58 PM #1947142I am a writer and stored all my books on my laptop well I learned a valuable lesson when it crashed and a book I had been working on, was due for deadline and it was gone. Since then I always keep all my programs and documents on external hard drives. I would recommend a external hard drive that plugs in via USB and store it all on there rather than the computer's hardrive. Not sure how you can get it all back but good luck.
March 26, 2023 at 7:52 PM #1947192@lynnamarie It was one of my external drives that had some weird glitch and all my stuff disappeared, but a recovery tool managed to salvage most of it, but a lot of older materials and figures were damaged. The drive was only a few months old. Some months before that my old HDD crashed and burnt out along with the motherboard of my PC (well it was over ten years old) and I lost everything that hadn't been back to another drive. @ethiopia you're right, external drives can be unpredictable, even when new.
