Regarding the (CAN NOT BE FULFILLED) Thickener Plug-In thread from Requests...
- Was browsing through Dead Post and found Thickener Plug-in needed to be re-upped
- Did typical Posts Search to make sure it wasn't a double and wasn't actually already re-upped
- Wasn't, so was about to up, and was reminded from archives that it was an .exe install, with serial. Thought twice about upping personal serial.
- Searched forums, and glad, as found topic in Requests thread (linked). Read it through top to bottom and questions began.Questions:
If this serial-requiring asset was (apparently) previously uploaded (presumably with working serial), how is it still an issue/danger beyond the filler? The original filler either had to provide their own SN, or find other(s) to include, right? That, or provide no serial and just up the .exe alone?
Also, since this item is now out in the wild (did a search and yep it is, with several serials included in a txt file in the zip, too - whether they work or not is another question), should the Dead Post for this be pulled so as to avoid the serial-trace-back threat mentioned in previous by the next unsuspecting? I was "smart" enough to search, otherwise would have pulled the trigger. Someone else may not be as... thorough? Or may get past the serial-share-phobia? ...Maybe a note in the Dead Post, "Don't do it. Read this thread."?
(Additional personal experience relevant to original thread: Installed from the .exe - DAZ-purchased last year - with no problems, and also used order-provided serial successfully without issue.)
(EDIT: Don't know why others have had problems with AB installs, but know it has happened before. Problems installing and using serials were pretty chronic with the first version of FLUIDOS, for example. It is NOT user error much/most of the time with this particular vendor. Suggest to consult forums and just keep at it. Eventually these plugins do work, and work well with proper guidance.)Oops.. didn't read the full topic. My bad.
Also, if you got the same serials I sent they will work.
As for sending an original serial you got when buying the product. I would never do that. Those serials were probably reversed engineered to work on the product.
Evidently the danger is to the sharer being identified through the unique serial. Those who used it aren't going to be in danger of identification.... DS has no phone-home capability as far as I know.
So given that the original sharer/s may have (or probably has) already been identified, sharing the original item and serial shouldn't present an ongoing problem. But as you say @Kefka, subsequent new sharing of the product from a different Daz account will expose you to the same identification issue.
As for those already in the wild, Das probably already knows who shared them. So what are they going to do... shoot you, dig you up and shoot you again?
