A request topic was never closed after the product was posted previously to the blog.
Am I required to pay for said private share (shared just today) even though it is now openly being shared in the blog for the last 6+ months?
October 6, 2022 at 2:35 AM #1874418So you got a PM with a DL link asking for points for something you offered points for more than 6 months ago? That's a bit rude. I try to remember to go back and cross out my offer if it pops up on the blog. Strictly speaking I suppose you need to honor your offer and if it's not too much I'd just pay it. I don't think there's any rule that says request offers are cancelled when something in generally shared. Maybe there should be.
October 6, 2022 at 3:12 AM #1874420I tend to agree with Frank, but I would check their points history, and make sure they didn't buy the asset off the blog in order to share it "privately" with people in the request thread. Cause that's just scummy.
October 6, 2022 at 5:01 AM #1874430I was under the impression once something is posted to the main blog, all request threads still open for that share become null and void. That's the way it SHOULD be, anyway IMO. Who would want to pay the ransom for something already available for 50 points? Nobody.
October 6, 2022 at 5:12 AM #1874433I found this in the FAQ blog...
"ONCE AN ITEM IS IN THE BLOG — monkseye eelgoo hunter or anjabear will remove the Request from the REQUESTS FORUM."
I'm not sure if that relies on the original requester asking for the thread to be closed.October 6, 2022 at 8:01 AM #1874478I just had the same problem. I even received two messages from two different(?) people at the same time asking for points for the same old and already posted item. I will politely, but firmly, deny any transfer. But these practices are close to scam IMHO.
October 6, 2022 at 8:32 AM #1874492I quite enjoy the honor system of the blog/forums, I must say - with points being transferred only upon agreement and equitably so.
While I always try to honor my word (and my offers), I could totally see how a "null and void" situation would and should supersede any points transfer expectation once the blog post is up.
The honor system would protect against such expectation by both parties, I would say, and so should therefore not be an expectation, or grounds for complaint, by the filler if/when so late to the party.
In such instances (I haven't had one yet, personally) I guess I'd simply send a politely worded note to the filler stating same, and the obvious - that it's too late to collect or expect a full bounty on a blog-available asset. I suppose it might differ from upload to upload, or be dependent on how long after the request was made until blog-post. But if I was filling a request and it was on the blog the next... week/month. Would I expect bounty transfers after? No. No I wouldn't. Regardless of crossing out or not of forum offers. And I wouldn't be the least bit miffed. Personally, I'd probably even direct requesters to the blog post.
/opinionOctober 6, 2022 at 8:58 AM #1874495The worst part of this is that it generates ill feelings between members on a site where trust and harmony is essential to its existence. Let's not be too emotional about who did what to who and how to respond.... it isn't actually a big deal in the scheme of things.
"Try and be nice to people, avoid eating fat, read a good book every now and then, get some walking in, and try and live together in peace and harmony with people of all creeds and nations".October 6, 2022 at 4:03 PM #1874609I believe there is - or was - wording to the effect;
Do not post the item to the blog until all points have been paid, so as to avoid someone paying 50 points and denying your bounty.I suppose it also depends on how many points you offered, and, as mentioned, if their purchase history only shows it obtained [for 50 points] just before requesting the bounty points.
Agree that a time limit should exist whereby the item needs to be confirmed as still required before sending any link.
October 10, 2022 at 1:36 PM #1876074Thank you all.
Sorry, I haven't been receiving notifs anymore, since about a month or so ago, for some weird reason. I did check the person that sent the pm and they are a reputable user, that often shares unpublished products. I was able to get in touch with them and they said not to worry about the points.
(For those who care) The offer was about 5k or so. My usual, but that is assuming I get it before published publicly.
Anyway, sorry for late response, I just assumed no one replied to this post because no notifs. Again, thank you all for taking the time.
