In General Chat, there are currently SEVENTEEN stickied threads. That's a lot. There are more stickied threads on the page than normal threads!
Besides the arguments for aesthetics and forum-simplicity, I think having too many stickied makes them easier to ignore. This defeats their purpose. There are too many for new members to digest. Heck, until today I never even clicked on two of them, and I've been here for a while.
Could the mods do some housekeeping to reorganize and pare them down? I'd be happy to volunteer to assist.
August 26, 2022 at 1:44 AM #1860579Below are my brainstormed suggestions for first steps:
–Remove threads that are no longer relevant, such as Seeders vs. Leechers, To all our members, GENESIS 8.1, and Requests vs Multi-Requests
–Combine threads with similar purposes, such as:
**Posting: Scheduled posting available + Copyright Infringing Vendors + A Visual Guide to posting
**Requests: Request Thread Rules + REQUESTS: Tips & Tricks–Move some of these stickies to the "ZoneGFX FAQs" forum. I see the FAQ forum was created but it currently has zero posts.
August 26, 2022 at 2:23 AM #1860583Yes, please!
August 26, 2022 at 3:07 AM #1860587@Enjoyify "I think having too many stickied makes them easier to ignore." Yep I just scroll past them, not that it's a huge effort. Might be better for them to be moved to the FAQ forum for the sake of tidying up the General Chat one and having the latest posts right up the top. Not a biggie for me.
BTW does anyone come here on their smart TV? On my Hisense TV it's a pakapoo ticket.August 26, 2022 at 4:20 AM #1860591August 26, 2022 at 5:20 AM #1860595Well I'm not particularly concerned that my middle/index finger is going to wear out from scrolling down through the posts on the General Chat thread. We quickly learn life isn't perfect.
August 26, 2022 at 5:29 AM #1860597totally agree, the problem with so many sticky threads is they become literally invisible because nobody really checks or recognize if there's a new one after it becomes a habit to scroll past them.
August 26, 2022 at 6:49 AM #1860606Perhaps sticky threads based on the Forum Category?
As far as I know, most Forums usually only have 2-3 sticky threads at most, otherwise people will just ignore them 🙁
August 26, 2022 at 7:59 AM #1860625" There are too many for new members to digest."
Possibly true - but moving them out of site will be more likely to be missed by newbies completely.
If you can't manage to read what is on the page you are at, you will probably not look elsewhere - may not even know there is somewhere to look."you can't know the answer if you do not know the question exists"
🙂August 26, 2022 at 3:11 PM #1860766Been ridiculous for awhile. Combine everything under one Sticky that opens into separate topics. a Simple GO HERE FOR SITE INFO would solve the issue of half a page of topics people have either read or wont read anyway.
August 26, 2022 at 11:08 PM #1860868Guess we should wait a bit, first (shortly) the site has to be transferred to a new, faster server.
In the mean time: continue to give suggestions please! Thanks in advance on behalf of the staff!
MonkAugust 27, 2022 at 12:57 AM #1860881Thanks for acknowledging the thread, @monkseye. This is obviously not a major problem. But I do believe the new member experience, and the forum generally, would benefit from some thread housekeeping. Some of the suggested fixes seem easy enough.
Maybe you should sticky this thread? (jk jk!)
August 27, 2022 at 1:11 AM #1860882As linked by @Lucafeelgood, there was a discussion on this same topic last year. There were some good suggestions in that thread too.
Personally, I’d prefer stickied threads to act more like they do on Reddit. A ‘hot topic’ or new event will spawn a stickied thread. This allows important topics to be highlighted and discussed by everyone. Those stickied threads, however, will generally only be up for a week or a month at most. Seeders vs Leechers is an example of a thread that would have been great to sticky for a few weeks, but should have been removed after the discussion fizzled out. That thread hasn’t had a new comment in over two years!
The currently useful stickies could be combined into FAQs, Rules, and a Guide to Posting and Requesting. Those could be placed on a side bar or in a dedicated forum.
I appreciate all the work you mods do, so I don’t want to appear as a complainer. All I really want is for the stickied threads to take up less than half the page. 🙂
Let us not be indifferent to the deaths of so many innocent scroll wheels.

@monkseyeMake it part of the join process. Click here if you have read and understand the following rule/links. I've read several of them and still don't understand them. They have more conflicted statements than the Bible.
Not sure about others but I believe the bounty request puts more trouble on the filler and also keeps the item unposted. Isn't it easier for the filler to just post the requested item and then everyone that is in the request thread send the points? When did it become such a burden to have to individually PM everyone and collect points? When did it become the norm to not post a bounty? Simple thing really. If you're found out not keeping your offer, then MODS step in and remove your points. If that doesn't work, they just ban you. If you don't feel like being directly linked to a post the MODS will usually post it for you but be aware you are losing a crap ton of points by not posting a bounty.
No multiple requests threads. Like asking for all 30 of an artist's characters. Allow 3 requests per day per person. eventually they can work through them.
