So,for giggles, I decide to try my hand at some comic type stuff. I planned to go back and fix up the crap background in photoshop, but after two weeks and nearly 100 renders I was tired. By the time I got to putting everything together, I was ready to do something else. But as the ADHD community motto goes- "Half ass is better than no ass."
It was good practice none the less 🙂

there are five more of these if anyone is interested lol
June 4, 2022 at 3:43 AM #1815689Pretty good and I've made a few (erotic) comics myself. There's a variety of ways to add dialogue to images and IMO none of them seem to work that well. Speech bubbles are good for immediately identifying who is speaking but unless done subtly they can draw attention away from the image. Sub-texts are good but require the viewer to connect protagonist with dialogue. And too much talk can can kill the visual flow altogether. If you look at manga you'll see that most of them limit visual vocalities to the absolute minimum and let the sequence on images tell the story by themselves [image below]. There is no right or wrong way of doing this as it's a balance one has to work out for themselves, but personally I'd keep visual dialogue to only when absolutely necessary for storyline, character development or immediate emotion.

It's certainly easier to do by hand with a pencil 😅 Alas it's been many moons since my comic doodling days. I could have searched for more balloons or attempted to make my own, but I was fizzling.
I had to change up a few things to adapt it, including cutting a lot of internal monologue and external dialogue.
I still had fun with expressions lol.June 4, 2022 at 4:26 AM #1815710The ComicLife app gives you the ability to select a variety of balloons, text styles, to shape them and adjust their text and balloon transparency on the base image so they're less obtrusive. PM me and I'll send you a link to a portable version of CL. Personally I like to keep the visual/internal dialogue very subtle so as not to interfere with the images too much.

June 4, 2022 at 12:12 PM #1815861Thanks for the suggestions! I feel so behind on all the software out there. I need to at least try to keep learning, but it gets so flusterating sometimes. Funny how I could figure out any program within a day or two when I was in my teens, but now I'm opening Photoshop, which I was using fairly aften last year, and couldn't get text to work. I didn't want to get worked up so I pulled out old faithful... PrintShop Pro 7... that I can run off a thumbdrive...
June 4, 2022 at 10:41 PM #1816056Yep, my eyes are drawn to the text and it takes effort to separate it from the renders. In some cases 50 percent of the picture is blocked by text. Been awhile since I cracked open a comic so Ive got no good feedback on how they did it.
