    Anyone who has tried since last November knows that you cannot currently create an account at ShareCG, and there seems to be no light at the end of the tunnel. One week ago, they apparently turned it back on, and they were immediately spammed with bot accounts, so they had to turn it back off. It's still currently disabled.
    https://www10.sharecg.com/blogs/team/2022/02/08/registration-new-members/

    I had the idea to start a "fetch topic", where members could request retrieval of a freebie item from SCG, and any other member who has access, could do a solid and get it, posting the link there for the requester, and anyone else that wants it. Maybe even add it to the blog...

    Then I realised "gee, I don't just have an account there, I have TWO.
    Yeah, I always try to future-proof my shenanigans :p

    So then it occurred to me, why not share one? Donate it to Zone if you will.
    The idea is, I give up one account and make the login publicly available here for any member to use so that they can access the items they seek. That way, it takes the need for a request thread away, and enables anyone to access ShareCG. The neat part about it that I just tested is that more than one user can login at the same time from different machines at different IPs, there is no "login lockout".

    So my informal poll is twofold:
    * Is userX interested in such a service?
    and
    * Can userX be trusted not to trash it?

    Frankly it's no skin off my nose to give up one account. But if some child came and changed the login credentials (there's no security safeguards, it's very 2005 technology), that would be the end of the party.
    So please, tell me what you think, while I mull it over.

    Accounts show your email address. Is that going to be a problem? I assume it's a dummy email address you don't use.

    Yeah, it's a mailinator "fake" address.
    It can be anything though, I'd be changing the username, email, and password to something else, they can all be changed.

    They've opened up registration again.

    Awesome, I hope they have no trouble with it again. That kind of thing sucks.

    One thing though, they haven't updated either the look of it or even the technology behind it in 15 or so years now, they would benefit greatly by a complete overhaul of the site. There's a lot of turnkey solutions out there for just such a thing.

    The only thing they've done in the past decade @Amberkat is to start selling stuff rather than just sharing. ShareCG (and Rendo FreeStuff) is good for finding items that the major stores and their PAs see as unprofitable to either make or sell. A curio shop for 3D.

    Yeah, it's like a 3D clearinghouse. However, there's some real gems in there, you just have to dig a bit.

    Fun Fact: did you know that everything ever uploaded to ShareCG remains on their CDN? It's true! No matter if a creator de-lists an item, or they delete their profile, those models, videos, PDFs, images... they are all still on the server. I just completed a scrape of Tab's (Y-Personal) catalog, which was removed several years ago. It was a little tricky, but with the Wayback machine and a calculator (download IDs and post IDs are sequential and correlated) I was able to download every item that was in his catalog. As soon as I can, I'll upload the freebie bundle.

    hi,

    i for one would be interested. i started hoarding again this week after a longer hiatus, looking for an install packager in the vein of dim, which was mentioned on the daz forum. when i followed the link, i saw that registration was closed and frankly, i don’t even know if i ever had an account there in the first place, as none of the usual combination worked.

    open to suggestions for better options or alternatives to the program listed above, cheers.

    @amberkat

    That is a good save!

    Tab was a very good clothing modeller.

    🙂

    @ducksick
    I have that if you want, but I thought we have it right here, I'm certain that's where I got it from a long while back... anyway, it's hot garbage, just stick with CPA+DIM, there's currently nothing better unless you want to write your won metafiles in notepad. If you do, you need your head checked 🙂
    <edit>
    Lol it's at ShareCG, a v2. Just checked it out, it works better than before, but still is a bit weird. Still, no tool seems to get the whole thing quite right.

    @eelgoo

    yeah, I was relieved I discovered my little trick, I totally missed most of that stuff when it was around. Too bad the only environment I saved was Girls Room, there were others, but seem to be lost forever now.
    I should probably go make that Tab bundle now.

    @amber, i haven't searched for software/plugins here yet, will have a look. my idea in the long run is to export most of the stuff to blender and the other apps anyway, because of their superior modelling/rendering options, so i have focused on the usual suspects, chars, clothing and hair plus props.

    is the version on sharecg more uptodate than the one shared here?

    web archive is gold, saved me in many cases where the original sites/pages were offline.

    Daz IM Creator is not here, Content Package Assist is. You can try Creator if you like, just know that CPA is more flexible and complete. It lacks the Update function found in Creator, but there you still have to locate the package's metafile yourself, at which point you may as well copy/paste it yourself 🙂
