To be more precise, I want to make a character that wears a lot of band-aids on their hands. Something akin to this :

What would be the best way of doing that? Directly editing the skin? L.I.E? Geoshell?
Everything I've found premade just lies flat, nothing to wrap around a finger. I guess I'm just looking for a good place to start.May 19, 2022 at 12:33 AM #1809681I have several types of band-aids but using non-confirming props would be a huge amount of work because of the number you would need. I don't know much about how the other options would work either... sorry. Conceivably a geoshell would work and you could off-set it to look more realistic.
May 19, 2022 at 12:54 AM #1809685LIE would look like it was painted on, so an actual mesh would really be needed for realism. Geoshell maybe, but you would have a tough time giving each a unique "texture", unless maybe you went nuts with displacement maps to give a raised and wrinkled appearance. Maybe that's a good experiment... bump and displacement maps are cheap and easy, as is a geoshell. The worst part of it would only be placement on the shell UV.
Now that I think about it, that might be the way to go if you plan on having many of them, modeling individual meshes would be tedious and lock each one into a specific place if they aren't very flat, like the ones wrapped around fingers and hands. You would need to add adjustment morphs to make them more versatile, and... just no. 🙂
May 19, 2022 at 1:14 AM #1809691@amberkat The wrap arounds are the ones I'm most interested in, I forgot about the option to make them items, kinda like a ring, I guess? I'm pretty inexperienced with all of the options, so I'm sure my first few attempts will look like caca regardless. I'm just trying to figure out my plan of attack lol
May 19, 2022 at 1:42 AM #1809695Hah, caca makes perfect. Or is that "practice"? Anyway, it's not like box modeling an entire environment, it might be good practice for the ins and outs of Daz content creation. There's tons of tuts available here and elsewhere on making all sorts of Daz content, so give it a spin maybe!
I think I learned more about Daz tech details here than anywhere else, especially Daz forums.May 19, 2022 at 10:52 AM #1809811I may be wrong, but I seem to have come across such a Band-aids product somewhere in the vastness of Rendo.
Alternatively, you can try to change the texture of some gloves using transparency.May 19, 2022 at 10:15 PM #1809957Gloves are a great idea @Yngvarr
As a very rough test -
This took about 10 minutes. Can be made much better with more time and effort.
May 19, 2022 at 10:46 PM #1809960You can try to wrap a band around a finger with this script by mcasual.
https://sites.google.com/site/mcasualsdazscripts9/mcjwrapabandAnd there are some band aid here
Nothing for the hands, but you can reuse the textures.May 20, 2022 at 1:46 AM #1809993@frank21 That doesn't look half bad really. I'll have to steal my tablet back from my husband, my shaky mouse work isn't going to cut it.
@hamster Thanks for the link! That's something I can take a swing at. I actually already have that set of bandages, but I'll probably end up scanning some I have here.May 20, 2022 at 2:19 AM #1809999The gloves I used has an "expand all" morph which is useful for off-setting the band-aids. Simply scaling the gloves will lead to distortion. I think I'll keep working on it for my own use now I know it kind of works. The problem with a geoshell is that doesn't have a template so you can't tell where to place the band-aids. I guess if you used stockings you could do the same on the legs etc.
May 20, 2022 at 10:02 PM #1810356Ya know, all things considered, my first attempt didn't turn out nearly as bad as I thought it would. Most certainly needs work, I gotta find a better method of lining things up, since clearly eyeballing it only kinda worked.
May 20, 2022 at 10:45 PM #1810363Great work @Oldspokesy !
Which method did you use for this?May 20, 2022 at 11:23 PM #1810373@Frank21 I used the glove method, it was an experience lol
May 21, 2022 at 12:30 AM #1810382Yeh it's tricky and time-consuming to get things in the right place, lots of tweaking, but you're done an excellent job with it so far. When you've finished I'd love to see the final result.
May 21, 2022 at 12:35 AM #1810384Wow @oldspokesy that looks great for a quick hack! Great job!
