Mega site has an option to use to download large files called megasync and ask you if you want to use it to do so. Is this a safe way or do they track what you are doing while using that option?
@greatbizarro Megasync seems to be aimed at cloud backup rather than snagging big files. I tried it but it had no speed advantage over doing it in the browser. It just got in my way so I disabled it. I have a slow connection though so your mileage may vary.
As for safety, it's yet another thing to install on your puter so there's that. If Mega wanted to spy on you they could do it either way.
I was wondering since I had a download link that had 15 large files and could not hit download as zip due to them being too large to consolidate for mega so was wondering if the megasync would take them all in sequence so I did not have to download 1 at a time over several hrs of downloading.
thanksFrom my expirience, Megasync has nothing to do with big files. No increase (or decrease either) in speed, just the sync tool, like every cloud service has.
The speed does not depend on the server or software... Even if you have a connection of about 300Mb, in my case, it never reaches that speed even if you are with an Ethernet cable. Megasync reaches me about 20Mb/s... or JDowloader , about 15, by wifi.
There is no logical explanation: It depends on many links and servers connected to your ISP...
But, NEVER use the cloud Sync, just only a local folder...The MEGA cloud application is safe, really no different than dropbox, and has basically the same features, i.e. it will keep (a) designated folder(s) synchronized with your cloud storage.
There IS a benefit though, all browsers have a cache size limit, which ultimately limits the maximum file size you can download through the browser. Up until fairly recently, this was only 1GB in Firefox... though currently it's much larger, so is rarely an issue.
The other nice thing is that you will eventually hit your daily allotted (secret) bandwidth cap if you download too much at once through the browser (could be 10GB, could be only 4GB today, you never know until you hit it!), but the application will allow transfers silently and without issue.LOL, oddly enough, I ran into the Firefox buffer cap today for the first time in maybe 3 years (Bonnie 8.1 Mega Bundle)...

I use MegaSync. But I disable it from startup and only turn it on when downloading big files (over 2GB). I get fewer failed downloads.
If it's not common knowledge, the Mega daily transfer limit is usually 5GB but can be reset instantly by changing your VPN IP address. With MegaSync, you can download the 5GB limit--then pause and reset your VPN IP--then continue downloading.
@enjoyify : While technically true (the quota is per IP), I've found it's a rare occurrence indeed to find a VPN or proxy exit IP that also hasn't hit the cap. Remember, everyone else on the planet has the same idea, and there are only so many VPN nodes.
But then again, if I'm downloading a dozen GB in a day, I might need to go touch grass for a little while :p
@Amberkat I've had a couple shameful 20GB days myself recently... 😉
I've had good luck with switching IPs. Maybe it's the vpn provider or the types of users it attracts. I used to use Nord and their nodes were always capped.
I like megasync when downloading multiple files and as I am not picky about having to have it all downloaded in the same day with the cap. I just leave it running so when my download limit gets hit, when it's reset back to 0 it picks up where it left off.
Well Megasync failed to download several files for me yesterday, left it running last night to see if they would continue downloading and no dice. Had to go back to the links and download the files directly. I tried to restart the files from megasync and still no dice.
