I just installed 8.1 along with some rendo content (mostly for 8.0 only), eventually leading to tonne shit of errors (missing morphs and uncleaned files, which were bogging the hell out of Daz).
Decided to clean the mess, took me 5 or 6 hours. Just got done, and finally gave 8.1 a test around.
I noticed even before this current mess, 8.1 loadup was comparatively slow than 8.0.And now, I decided to take a look at the log finally. I can't say whether the current slowup is due to the mess I just had to resolve. But with the cleaning done, now the usual 8.0 characters load fine. Both male and female load in a couple 8-10 seconds at best, which was my earlier loading time. 8.1 Male still loading in 12-15 seconds but I noticed helluva lot of errors for it. When it came to the 8.1 Female, thrice that amount of errors. So my question is, whether 8.1 is worth having in your work library or using it now or is it a waste of time (and money who even spent it on)?
Should it be kept in a separate library perhaps?March 2, 2021 at 10:58 PM #1671174I usually wait before I install new things or updates from daz because they always seem to have bugs until after a bit. I never update right away.
March 2, 2021 at 11:22 PM #1671176I got Victoria 8.1 a few weeks ago. Haven't really used it yet. I might, but I have so many other models that I can use.
March 3, 2021 at 3:26 AM #1671203Very worth it, for the expressions alone.
I have converted most of my models to g8.1f and they all look much better, also the ds 4.15 version is a big improvement compare to 4.12, both in render time and daily performance.
All in all I think its good time to upgrade.March 3, 2021 at 7:06 AM #1671234@conkec1993 What about the loading times and the scene startup, say if you had a large scene with 2 or 3 characters? I only noticed the log files, apparently 8.1 is looking for a helluva lot of morphs which 8.0 doesn't, both male and females. So idk what that's about. The log file which only gets to 5-10k for 8.0 turned to a 6 mb file after I loaded the 8.1 figures. Can try with victoria 8.1 too (I only used the dev figures)
@nsprite78 A fair point, that's what I was wondering. A hell of a lot of stuff is buggy all the time for me. And I can't file bug reports since I don't own those products, and forum moderators can't help because they need bug reports (for them specifically), on -products that are available for all (basically, the free assets only)March 3, 2021 at 7:26 AM #1671239@raex-d yeah I think the loading times and scene start up does increase a bit, but not too much. How many morph do you have?
March 3, 2021 at 7:37 AM #1671241@conkec1993 Plenty enough, my daz library is about 400 gigs. From what I can gather from the log, 99.99% of the errors are based on the expression morphs. Even though the morphs are in place, and the morphs work fine on 8.0. On 8.1 they don't. In fact I noticed all the expressions that it can't find in the log are the ones that I can't apply to the 8.1 figure. Seems like the issue is with facial expression morphs (posing morphs), since the rest of the morphs are all working. Thought the 8.0 morphs worked on 8.1, but guess the limit only goes till the shaping morphs.
I guess that's 8.1 for you, no wonder there were separate expressions for 8.1 newly made. But since it's going to go about looking for all those missing morphs and slow down the character load up, that's not much good right now, imo, no?
--SKIP THIS PART--
EDIT: Nope, not worth having. It's conflicting with a lot of base 8.0 characters too Bridget, Aubrey, Teen Jane, Teen robin to name a few (albeit the number of conflicts isn't too heavy, these are the character expression morphs that adjust the base expression morphs for that particular character). Then there's plenty of the 8.0 Expression morphs, from what I gathered it was conflicting with about 80 sets of morphs (by set, I mean the full packages, the number of total conflicts reached over 12k) It's cool for individual renders but besides that, it seems like a too much of bogging down. And I have a decent system too, 32 gigs of ram and a 1TB nvme SSD. Imagine peeps who would have lower specifications than this, if it's bogging this much on mine.
--------------------
EDIT2: Alright, I just made a comparison using a timer. G8M loads for me in about 9s and G8F in 27s, the 8.1M loads in 10s and 8.1F in 28s. Seems like the the slow loadup is for the female characters only, guess plenty of expression morphs is the issue here. So the real question here now is, are the expression morphs worth keeping?March 3, 2021 at 8:53 AM #1671249@raex-d
I stumbled upon this trick (the first comment). I haven't tried it yet but it might be worth a try.March 3, 2021 at 9:08 AM #1671256@hottehue wow, thanks alright. I see now, yeah that removed the logging. (And that makes the 8.0 expressions work, so the trick works) Although seems like the load up times remain the same. Then I guess, just the expression morphs are not the ones making the Female characters load up time so high, but all of the morphs present for Females.
Can't imagine there'd be a way to lower that down except removing some morphs then, right?
Edit: Also, got any idea which file does the files mentioned in the first post here? I can't seem to find them anywhere, even the 3 updated files that others mention to update/reinstall, G8 Essentials, Default Daz Resources and Daz 4.15+ doesn't resolve my issue. Or maybe if someone could just zip those files perhaps.
March 3, 2021 at 10:48 AM #1671278How did you install those files?
I have trouble with DIM before, it absolutely messed up my setup with a lot of missing file error. Dont know what I did wrong though, and I have to manual install 4.15, g8.1 and vicyoria 8.1 to make it work.March 3, 2021 at 12:24 PM #1671311@conkec1993 Via DIM. But hmm, okay so those errors only pop up for 8.1 figure right. I checked the Victoria 8.1 package, it doesn't has those files within itself, neither did the Genesis 8 for Females Essential package did have those files within itself.
I didn't check the daz studio package, maybe it has them but idk if it doesn't. Do you have those files in your installation?March 3, 2021 at 6:47 PM #1671452If you asked me when the figure first came out, I would say that I refuse to beta-test others products.
I did get it however, and I honestly love it. The expression manipulation dials are more intuitive now, and I find that I rely less on canned/pre-baked expressions, instead tweaking and making my own as I go.
My only real gripe is that I had to go grab the updated Fit Control package and manually go in and change a lot of the unencrypted scripts before any of the Gen 8.0 tools would work. I may put that up once I get off my butt and score-up a Mega account.
March 3, 2021 at 7:02 PM #1671456@pooper Yeah I played around them a lot. It looked quite good, especially the new improved skin shaders they have gotten for Victoria and Michael. Also noticed a couple fixes in G8.1 which they never (still didn't) fix in G8.
My only gripe was the loading times. Apparently I was a bit wrong in my assessment first. Perhaps I should remove some of the morphs and characters I don't need. Oh btw, Fit control had a new update for 8.1?March 3, 2021 at 7:06 PM #1671458Oh btw, Fit control had a new update for 8.1?
They do, in the DAZ Store. Works nicely (I only got it very recently.)
Haven't really dorked with the skin that much, since I'm still in a toon frame of mind and have built up 8.1-bodied toons, which is, as you might understand, radically different than a realistic skin/tex. I might duck out and build up something more realistic just to see what comes of it.
March 3, 2021 at 7:19 PM #1671459@raex-d no I dont have those files too, but it seem those files are belong to the new face controls?
