Hivewire announced it will be shutting down its store on Jan. 4. ๐ Many of their products will move to Renderosity, while others will be retired. They didn't make it clear which items they would leave behind.
Purchased items wont be accessible after the closing, so make sure to download what you need before then.
November 28, 2020 at 10:00 PM #1646163thanks for letting us know and advice ๐
November 29, 2020 at 1:25 AM #1646205November 29, 2020 at 2:49 AM #1646212I own over $500.00 worth of HiveWire Horse stuff and other things from there. There will be a closing sale, maybe we can get stuff we couldn't find before... who knows.
This is the 3rd BIG STORE closing in recent times, RDNA, PoserAddicts and now HIVEWIRE...
Wow, just wow.
AnjaBearDecember 1, 2020 at 8:37 AM #1646679Shame they're not moving to CGbytes.
CGbytes has the advantage that they basically have Rendererotica eternally propping them up and honestly could use the content.
December 1, 2020 at 11:37 PM #1646808@LivingPixels exactly. I think Bondware pretty much bought Poser for way to much and itโs hurting Renderosity in the long term. Seeing all of these marketplaces closing just benefits DAZ even more since the oneโs that are closing sell mainly Poser compatible content. And of course with Poser 12 making said content worse off, as well as further splitting apart the DAZ and Poser audiences, probably leading up to a complete market crash.
If Renderosity ever shuts down themselves, DAZ will have a full blown monopoly (yet only if Reallusion jumps into the hole that was left over)
December 5, 2020 at 12:51 AM #1647493Well, DAZ is trying, albeit maybe too little, too late, to adapt - however, DAZ "adapting" is mostly bad for customers, as it involves yet another set of shader-sets, and DAZ still haven't done anything with their abysmally bad installers / base backbone, so... yeah.
DAZ is a buggy piece of shit software, relying heavily on asset sales to stay afloat (naturally) - however, the quality of the assets are mostly dwindling, and patches and gaffatape isn't gonna keep the building from collapsing, unfortunately.
The buying of Poser was a bad decision. Poser is dead. Has been for ages, and it won't recover. At least not until they adapt the same position DAZ does, and give the program away for free, and charge for assets. There is literally no reason to use Poser, a program with way less content than DAZ, instead of DAZ.
As for "entry level", there is still nothing as simple as DAZ out there. Any one of the proper 3D programs takes a LOT more effort to learn, to get even close to similar quality output as you can with DAZ.
Where the other programs shine, though, is animation and physics - but DAZ have been trying, and have added quite a bit of neat assets for at least simulating physics and proper effects, and while their animation bits are still leaving a LOT to be desired, it "works", at least for simple animations.
The biggest hurdle DAZ has is their reliance on Iray, and Nvidia cards. It's not a horrible rendering engine, but it's demanding, and it forces you to have decent hardware to achieve anything complicated. Which can ofc be kind of a discrepancy compared to the ease of entry into the DAZ world.
While Poser might go under, hopefully without taking Rendo with it, I think DAZ will stay afloat for some time yet.
December 5, 2020 at 1:03 AM #1647495i think due to the rise of Renderhub seems to be the next best option for those fleeing from Renderosity.
December 5, 2020 at 2:35 AM #1647505agreed scoobs
December 5, 2020 at 2:54 AM #1647506Daz is the only one that is doing ok. They have a near monopoly already. But it is not all fantastic for them. In order to try to keep of revenue, they are shoveling content out the door. I think that this will hurt them long term as they bury their best customers, and quality of that content has not been that great.
The problem is that releasing so much content cause anything a few weeks old to get lost in the shuffle. And when their store's search engine is incapable of finding what people look for, yeah, that means those items die.As it stands, Daz will survive as long as there is not another Genesis like model released for gaming engines. Once Gaming engines get this model and their software becomes easier to use, Daz will begin to rapidly decline. Of course Daz Genesis could potentially become that, but I don't think it will. They'd had all these years to do it, and they screwed up Morph3d by making it a different company and store, instead of Daz branded and part of the Daz store. Morph3d was a good idea in priciple, but it was executed terribly.
There is always that chance that Epic will swoop in and buy some sort of model platform. They already bought a pretty large asset store and even made the entire thing free to Unreal Engine users. They are certainly not afraid to do something like this again. If Epic makes a move like this for human models, Daz is truly dead.
