    I'm sitting out back on the deck having a beer. Love the back. Trees and land. Its relatively quiet out here in the country. Really quiet today. Suns out, nice breeze. Then I go to the front of the house and sit out there and have another. Gazing through the tall , softly glowing yellow green evergreens, and then I look up and see an eagle gliding casually overhead, looking for supper under the crystal blue sky. Then I see a few insects bee bopping around, and I'm thinking; they don't have emotions, just instincts. In a nutshell, they are programed to do what they do and they do it. Like tiny computers that are alive. No complaints or feelings about it at all. They don't really make choices. They just do what their instincts tell them to do. That would be nice. Nice to not have emotions.
    Then I'm thinking about my cats. They make choices. They can choose to ignore me or to listen to me. They can choose to come ask me for lovins or not. An insect won't. In fact, humans are insignificant to insects. There's a twist huh? However, I will give exception to spiritual encounters with insects. I have no explanation for those.

    I couldn't handle living in the city for long anymore. I've always been a country boy. Growing up in the woods /forests/ mountains. Its where I feel most at home and at peace. I'm glad I'm back. Animals won't betray you. Even wild animals. You always know where you stand as long as respect is given.

    I love my home. Surrounded by natures tall trees, mountains, lakes, rivers and animals. Yup.. Paradise..

    It is always good to appreciate what you have.

    I have also always have been a countryside soul & made a concious decision when I graduated to pick quality of life over career progression.

    I live in a very rural area and I'm blessed to also have a glorious seaside bay within 200yards of my front door.

    🙂

    .Same, i live in rural area,that beside my house, there a small river,and across the river,i can see a quite vast green field with mountain as backdrop,a beauty of nature to have every morning. When rainy season begin,i can often hear the frog orchestra.
    But unfortunately,my mother always pester me to move out from the house to pursue tedious career in big city as I have Law school degree collecting dust in corner. *sigh
    This is also the very reason i pursue anything that related with digital career (writing,programming,3d art) as digital career can offer me a remote working opportunity, people often said to me that i'm a fools because i choose on this over my law degree.

    You have to do what feels right for you.
    There is no point doing what others expect if it stresses you out & makes you unhappy.
    I spent far too much time pursuing would be careers because others thought it was a good idea.

    🙂

    What a great picture you've painted for us here, Dragon. My ultimate goal is to retire out onto a few acres in the countryside. I live in the suburbs now, but I want to live on a plot where I literally cannot see a neighbor from my porch.

    Great post.

    wow.. Thanks for all the great replies..However, apologies.. I was pretty lit and vaguely remember this post, now having read it. I remember what it was about though, because I was depressed. (alcohol kills the pain of the ex being gone). Doesn't change the meaning of the post however.

    @ethiopia
    I get it. I know people who thrive on city life. The concrete jungle with steel trees and glass mountains. The hustle and bustle and chaos and drama of humanity. I did that for 27 years. Los Angeles and the Bay Area. It was pure hell for me and was killing me slowly day by day. The people with their lies, deceit, backstabbing, two faces and ulterior motives.
    But I was raised in the mountain areas. Camping, fishing. I worked on trail maintenance crews. I moved to Ca to follow a female and got stuck.

    I finally moved back home 10 years ago with my now ex, and worked hard with her to get this place 3 years ago. I just need to find the money to buy it from her so I can be done with her for good.

    What eelgoo said. Live for YOU and YOUR happiness. Others don't live your life. And here's an idea: take that Law Degree and make it work for you ONLINE. Maybe set up a website and do online consultations, or even on the phone. Maybe something else. I don't know what all your degree entails. Just a thought. Might be something to look into.

    @amadeus
    OK, so Amadeus is the name of my Gold Jeep. 🙂 Had to share. I hope you can make your dream come true.

    That should be an acheivable goal.
    It is realistic & sounds viable.
    Make it happen.
    Sometimes you have to grab your life by the scruff of the neck and push it in a certain direction.
    🙂

    @eelgoo so I visualized your metaphor and saw myself dressed as a barbarian,(I'm a big guy) , grabbing my life and shoving it's face into the toilet while flushing, and asking it if it was going to start doing as I say .. LOL

    Yes I need help. 🙂

    @ethiopia sounds nice. I'm only about 15 miles from a small city where I do my shopping, with a couple of 1 horse towns (don't blink) within a couple miles. I prefer a one horse town.

    People spend too much of their lives doing what they don't like and living where they don't want to live. I wasted 25 years of my life like that and its a huge regret. But it definitely makes me appreciate what I have now. Including my winter snow and cold weather. 🙂 Love it.

    The closer to the equator I can get the better.

    Florida or some country that never gets snow. That's where I hope to make my last move.
