As many of you know, some DAZ addons come as .EXEs such as FaceGen, aniMate2, etc. Cracked versions of the software are frequently uploaded here.

However, many users report (as comments on the download page) that the .EXEs contain viruses (such as this: https://zonegfx.com/alembic-exporter-for-daz-studio-v-1-4-winmac-2/ ). No doubt a good number of these are false positives from virus protection programs. But is it worth the risk of infecting a computer with hundreds of GB of files? The .EXEs are often uploaded by community members instead of moderators, and no information on where or how the crack was done is provided.

So moving forward, will ZoneGFX admins/moderators ever implement a system to verify the integrity of .EXEs uploaded? Or at least require the source of the crack (e.g. did it come from a dedicated cracking site vs. another 3D-rip site)?

I dont foresee mods installing and testing every product. I do agree the should be virus checked but if you're not personally checking every file you download then you only need to blame yourself.

If they do not come with a working crack or serial they should be deleted. If they are locked in demo mode they should be deleted. If a virus is found and reported by at least 2 users they should be deleted.

Ive uploaded tons of exe files in some of my bundles. Hopefully my auto virus checker found any issues. If not then someone elses should find it. If not then cross your fingers and pray. Thats part of the risk you take for free stuff. It less of an issue now I think with forum boards than with torrents and malware sites. Ive only opened a handful of exes since coming back to 3D. Yet another reason I dont do Poser anymore. You never know where content comes from and I dont expect others to post sources. I dont trust any site with any content. I rename exe files .exe1 .exe2 when downloading them so I do not accidentally activate one.

as a side comment you mentioned animate2. it's already installed with daz. all you require is the serial number to unlock it completely. any .exe that says otherwise i would delete. i thought you should know.

I agree with @d0gg0d here. You're responsible for the stuff you download and/or install.

Mostly, virus warnings on .exe-files (at least from here) are false positives, and of course, a lot of the crackers available gets triggered regardless, as they're deemed "unwanted software" by most AV packages. That doesn't mean they contain anything dangerous, though, just that their purpose are frowned upon.

Given that plenty of older DAZ-assets also are in .EXE-format (before DIM), worrying about only a few of them is silly.

Other than that, I do agree that keys and cracks should always be provided, or at least instructions for how to get a license for free.
