Gloriana Elizabethan Headdress
The Gloriana Elizabethan Headdress is an Exotic and highly detailed accessory delicately handmade to capture the Extravagance of Elizabethan Royalty. This Flamboyent headdress represents the Social Status of the era with Gorgeous hand stitched Embroidered Silk, fine lace fabrics, french tulle and finished with beading and crystals fit for a Queen.
This headdress was inspired by The Virgin Queen Elizabeth I of England. Elizabeth I was Queen of England and Ireland from 17 November 1558 until her death on 24 March 1603. Sometimes called the Virgin Queen, Gloriana or Good Queen Bess, Elizabeth was the last of the five monarchs of the House of Tudor. Queen Elizabeth was a great follower of fashion, she dressed to impress. Headdresses were an important status symbol to the Elizabethans , and a person had to dress in accordance with their social status. It was thus in keeping that the queen dressed more magnificent than anyone else. The Queen Wore many elaborate Collars, Whisks, Starched Ruffs and Partlets which were worn around the neck and became significantly larger and more extavagant as she aged. The Virgin Queen did not wear makeup until a bout with smallpox in 1562 which left her with a lot of facial scars and deep welts. The makeup would prove to be very deadly. She painted her face with white lead and vinegar, which poisoned her slowly over time and ate away at her skin. Dental care was very important to Elizabethans and they realized that Hygiene was key to keeping good teeth, however the means they had to clean their teeth were not so great, Even Elizabeth ended up having so many rotted teeth that her cheeks started to cave in from lack of support. She stuffed her cheeks with rags for public appearances. Queen Elizabeth I died on March 24 1603 age 69 in Richmond Palace with a full inch of makeup on her face.
