I've been posting a lot today, because I rarely get any time to myself, but, out of curiosity; which genre of art is your favourite? Personally, Renaissance style art, or the art of the 17th and 18th centuries, or the art inspired by them (I particularly like Paul Delaroche, Alexandre Cabanel and Berthold Woltze) along with some modern day fantasy and gothic artists, Anne Stokes and Victoria Frances are among my favourites. I'm not really a fan of contemporary art, or Expressionism or Modern Art in general.
So, who are your favourites?
May 26, 2025 at 5:47 PM #2130274I assume you talk in terms of painting, and not sculture, architecture, etc... so here goes my GOATs:
Velazquez, Goya, Rubens, Vermeer, Canaletto in terms of Classic Art.
Also the pre-raphaelites (Laurence Alma Tadema, Edmun Blair Leighton, and over all John William Waterhause with the Lady of Shalott)
In the modern times, Sorolla, Antonio Lรณpez
Recently I found a guy called Dino Valls. Ultra-realistic.
All those people are what could be categorized as Prime-Tier Art.In a less-academic category, would mention Angus McBride and John Howe

May 26, 2025 at 8:12 PM #2130280In that field I also have a few favorites... ๐
May 26, 2025 at 10:08 PM #2130285I was always partial to Roger Dean and Rodney Matthews.
May 26, 2025 at 11:10 PM #2130289@1138adrianmartinez I was talking about painting, but when it comes to sculpture, you can't beat the classics. I also love Auguste Rodin. I have a miniture replica of The Kiss.
My late dad was an architect, so I have a love for classical architecture - as did he - along with Art Nouveau. Not too crazy about Art Deco, Brutalist, or most soulless Modern designs. I also have a special place in my heart for Jacobean builds, Baroque and Late Baroque. I also find early Norman and medieval style beautiful.
@supreme-leech Funnily, I'm not a porn fan. Tasteful nudes; yes, but porn doesn't float my boat, but each to his own, I guess! ๐
@littleevie Both really talented. And some very nice designs. ๐ -
