Hey guys. I just wondered if there was a rule or similar to answer this.

In my head, if the size is doubled (I've gone from 2000x1600 to 4000x3200) the render should take twice as long BUT I figure the calculations such as lighting would already be done, right, so maybe not? How does it work?

    Thank you.

(for the record, I am experimenting with this as we speak, but it's obviously a slow process and I wondered if other people knew how much the actual size affected the render times)

2x the size = 4 times the AREA to render, so around 4 times longer.

I did a quick test. one of my characters + hdri, 5000 samples. 1500x1500 took 2m15s. 3000x3000 took 8m39s. Not exactly 4x but close enough.

If the workload is too small, the gpu may not get fully utilized. Also, if the workload is really small, the gpu will lose time splitting the workload for hyperthreading rather then just doing the work.
