Not sure if you guys noticed this, but it kinda bothers me if there's a large number of duplicated files lying there but with different names, which is also the reason that makes it covert to see. So I took a shot at the popular Texture Expansion products from OOT and it worked, now I wanna share this method with you so that you can totally do it yourself on other products in order to store more of your favorite DAZ items or other things like CP models with the saved space.
Tested/Target Products:
Soft Curls Long Hair for Genesis 9
Soft Curls Long Hair Texture Expansion
Required Products (can handle all the OOT hairs published between 2021 - present, so roughly 40G+ can be freed):
2021-06 Hair for Genesis 8 and 8.1 Females
2021-06 Hair Texture Expansion
Saved Space: 1G+ at least for a complete OOT hair product (base+addon)
Principle: Redirect the texture path inside the preset files to your choosing ones.
DL (PASS:Sabrina)
Usage: Merge the same files and delete SoftCurlsLong and SoftCurlsLong-Alpha folders in this case.
You can use any product as a base, 2021-06 hair is just an example. Here's a quick Q&A:
Does this method apply to all OOT hair products?
As long as they use the same textures, so you might have to change the base/required products accordingly.
Can I make the preset files from scratch for Texture Expansion?
Theoretically yes, this is what this post is all about, inspirations as it can also work on other vendors' hair products because it's a common practice to reuse the same resources especially hairs.
