As someone who has a few specific types of art that I am drawn to create; whether it's photomanips, digital painting or 3D; I was wondering what everyone else's preference is? I know there are some people who like the porny stuff - no judgement, but it's not my thing - and others who like sci-fi or contemporary, or even the elven fantasy stuff...
So, tell me (because I'm a curious so and so lol) what's your thing art wise?

I've been away from everything for a couple of years and first thing that made me want to fire it up again was that gorgeous chihuahua bundle! Hypertufs animals were also a great motive.
So I mostly love making storybook, colorful stuff with lots of animals and cute fairies. The toonier the better 🙂February 7, 2022 at 6:02 PM #1774365SciFi kitbashing multiple sets together. Of course I am extremely hard on myself so I rarely keep or release images. Too much of a perfectionist.
February 7, 2022 at 6:07 PM #1774366TBH I am more of a collector than an artist.
I like ultra-realism & favour single frame renders rather than animation.
🙂
February 7, 2022 at 6:16 PM #1774384Almost everything. Sci-Fi, Fantasy, Artistic Nudes, High + Low Key, Abstract, Photo-Manip, Gothic, Horror, Punk, Noir(mostly the style), Superhero, ect...
Best World is Shadowrun IMHO. It brings almost everything together in one package.Things I am NOT into are people with over exaggerated body parts, 3D pron (Nudity is fine), Torture, mutilation or gore not tied into a horror aspect. Children in suggestive poses, Most Toon characters.
February 7, 2022 at 6:22 PM #1774386I don't much care about the genre but I prefer mostly NSFW art and just straight-up porn.
February 7, 2022 at 9:35 PM #1774443@trader I like the storybook stuff too, not much of a toon fan, though, but I do like creating art that stays more or less faithful to the original fairytales as opposed to the Disney stuff.
@d0gg0d I'm a fan of most of your choices, apart from the sci-fi - it's a genre I never really got into.
@kooroe Each to his own - not a porn fan myself, but if it's what you enjoy creating, more power to you!
@ethiopia I like artistic nudes; if the scene calls for it, but I'm not really into the whole porn thing. However, I like the Victorian surroundings and the elegant gowns, etc. I'm a huge fan of classic architecture, furniture and fashion; particularly Jacobean, Baroque and Rococo, but there are very few available at Daz and Rendo. Turbosquid have some great pieces, but they tend to cost an arm and a leg, so I don't think anyone will be buying them and uploading them to the blog anytime soon!
@eelgoo I love the realistic looking characters too. Not a fan of those doll/elf type characters (I'm actually sick of seeing so many elven characters - I blame LOTR for their abundance, because all the males tend to look like Legolas clones, whereas the females look like Galadriel or Arwen lol) I use Facegen (I find it better than Headshop) to create my own custom characters from photos and some actually turn out looking fairly realistic - particularly if I use good textures.February 8, 2022 at 2:48 AM #1774497I've dabbled in pretty much everything apart from Steampunk. Steampunk?... what the hell is that on about.... stupid concept IMHO.
February 8, 2022 at 8:17 AM #1774538It's 99% porn for me I'm afraid. I try to keep it a least semi-realistic when it comes to both body shapes and the overall setting. It's mostly what I guess I'd 'amateur' if I had to compare it to a real-life porn genre; normal(ish) people having naughty fun in bedrooms and living rooms and occasionally the kitchen or garden with forays into different kinks.
Elves/High Fantasy/Toon stuff leaves me cold, and despite being a massive sci-fi fan, I think I've only done a handful of sci-fi style scenes in the decade and a half I've been tinkering.
February 8, 2022 at 8:26 AM #1774540I was never a fan of steampunk. The animation " Arcane " is amazing however and very steampunkish.
I think you just need the proper motivation.
February 8, 2022 at 10:31 AM #1774569@Frank22 About nine or so years ago, the steampunk thing took off on deviantart. While there are some prop elements that can be incorporated into gothic scenes (Romar's steampunk hourglass, for example and I do have a steampunk hearse in my library that looks okay, provided it's part of a non steampunk scene), etc, others are just ridiculous looking. I never understood the appeal, really; particularly the goggles, weird weaponary and clock eyepatches.
@SkippyTheMeh I can't stand elves. I like certain fantasy pieces, provided there's no friggin' elves, as we've come to know them in the scene. In folklore (at least in my neck of the woods), elves were wicked little creatures that abducted children and caused mischief and illness - not tall, statuesque regal, benevolent beings; I think the tall, handsome elf trope has its roots in Germanic folklore, but here in local folklore, elves were spiteful, demonic little b******s from which people used charms and the like to protect themselves.I think when something becomes popular, PAs jump on the bandwagon because it's profitable and create as many of these type of models as possible before a new fad takes over. Usually, if there is an elf character with realistic features and good textures, I'll use it without the ear morphs and clothes and accessories that come with it. And I tend to use elf clothes in gothic/historical scenes, teamed with other pieces.
February 8, 2022 at 10:49 AM #1774571@Reinecarola, Have you ever read 'Lords and Ladies' by Terry Pratchett?
“Elves are wonderful. They provoke wonder.
Elves are marvellous. They cause marvels.
Elves are fantastic. They create fantasies.
Elves are glamorous. They project glamour.
Elves are enchanting. They weave enchantment.
Elves are terrific. They beget terror.
The thing about words is that meanings can twist just like a snake, and if you want to find snakes look for them behind words that have changed their meaning.
No one ever said elves are nice.
Elves are bad.”Tolkien has a lot to answer for... I remember hand-me-down books of fairy tales that I had read to me in the 70s and were probably published in the 30s or 40s that had Elves and fairies as nasty, tricky little things that would steal babies in the night and replace them with changelings. Apparently Sir Terry must have read the same tales, because his elves are nasty bastards as well.
(GNU Terry Pratchett)
February 8, 2022 at 12:06 PM #1774589@SkippyTheMeh I used to like some of Pratchett's books when I was a kid, but I've never understood the massive Tolkien lovefest.
Granted; he did put a lot of work into his creation, but, then again, so did George RR Martin and I much prefer a Song of Ice and Fire to LOTR, because despite the existence of dragons and magic, the emphasis is more on the political and personal manoeuvrings and motivations of human beings, and the characters are complicated and well developed. There are no saints in those books; and it's easy to find a character with whom you identify, as opposed to Tolkien's clearly delineated characters; e.g. Elves good, Orcs bad. There's little to no nuance there, it's - despite the elaborate world in which it's set - a very basic tale of good vs evil.
We had this really ancient fairytale book when I was a kid; and the fairytales were so much more gruesome and frightening, whilst at the same time being full of hope, than the sanitised Disney versions. And they all had a decent moral to the stories. For example; in the original Cinderella tale, there was no Fairy Godmother; Cinderella received help from the songbirds and the spirit of her dead mother. Her stepsisters were not described as ugly either; just spiteful, proud and haughty, but the implication that they were, in fact, outwardly beautiful was there, and one cut off her big toe at the instruction of her mother, so as that the slipper would fit, whereas the other cut a chunk off her heel. It was the singing birds who alerted the Prince that neither was the girl he sought, so he returned both home and eventually got Cinderella to try on the shoe. For me, at least, the idea that she was aided by her dead mother on whose grave she planted a hazel tree, was a far better story than some winged old fairy woman waving a magic wand. Like Tolkien; Disney has a lot to answer for lol
February 8, 2022 at 4:28 PM #1774714Not many but here are some evil elves from Tolken:
Fëanor - Once the greatest of the Noldor, he forged the first weapons for the elves, led the first kinslaying and massacred a bunch of elves because they wouldn't give him their boats. He later abandoned his followers to a fatal foot journey on ice because he was suspicious of his half-brother.
The Seven Sons of Fëanor - Took a terrible oath, tried to make things right after Fëanor's death but resulted in two more massacres.
Eöl - Kidnapped and raped his future wife Aredhel. When she eventually escaped with her son Maeglin, he followed to kill the boy but Aredhel fatally intervened. Eöl cursed his son that he would befall a similar fate.
Maeglin - Probably the evilest of all elves in my opinion, because he directly served Morgoth. He fell in love with his cousin Idril, a taboo among elves. So when refused, he sold out the kingdom of Gondolin to Morgoth in exchange for the girl.Disney is now going through their villain roster and making movies for them to show that they are just misunderstood. They Turned Boba into a Cos-play grandpa
February 9, 2022 at 7:49 AM #1774911I'm into fantasy, sci-fi, comic...not necessarily in that order. I'd be lying if I didn't admit to porn/DiD rendering/perusing. I've always enjoyed creating as much as, if not more than, rendering. Morphs and clothing tend to be my jam.
