What's going on with those links, they're each only a volume of a multi-part archive? I gotta download an entire 45GB zip file to extract a single VDB??WHHYYYYYYYYYY!?!
*flings arms around like Kermit the Frog*March 22, 2022 at 6:42 AM #1787102Indeed, @amberkat
They are not just static VDBs, they are animated.
They start with a small one of 2 or 3 Kb, and as they grow, the Gigas increase, only to decrease. Let's say it's a sequence of obj or an Alembic, but in points cloud. I don't think Daz accepts these sequences. You need Blender, Maya, cinema 4d, houdini, 3dmax, etc...
You can always render them into a clip or sequence of images with the proper perspective...

I know what they are, and how to use them.
And yes, Daz now has a Simple OpenVDB Volume Shader. Apply the shader to a geometry and load a VDB.My gripe was that they would all be in a single gigantic archive...
but on second look, they ARE individual files! They are RIDICULOUSLY HUGE!.
the very smallest low-res are over 1GB in size, many nearly 50GB.
These are made for the likes of Pixar with a 500 node render farm, if you or I tried to load one of these in Daz, you would wake up in the hospital.I'll stick with EmberGen, even though it uses 100% of GPU even when idle, and locks up my computer. At least it's only a waste of 3 hours, not 17 or more (for a file I can't use) to render a puff of smoke.
March 23, 2022 at 1:33 PM #1787300It is evident that it is not a resource for Daz, that even with five bottles of bourbon we would not think to render with IRAy! This is for more experienced people. The first thing I think is to make an Alembic Ogawade each element... with two High Res values..., and save it on a portable hard drive... (but I think they are fine!) I have only tried one in c4D, and they work great .. (if you have a 15TB external ssd hard drive, but with Jdownloader it can be calm, always an Alembic already treated...
March 23, 2022 at 11:31 PM #1787516Yeah, that's a lot of extra steps just to get a static single-frame VDB. That, and all my HDD space combined is only 7TB (4 + 2 + 1 system drive)... and more than half is already used :^P
EmberGen works fine, even if it requires a kinda beefy computer to run it. Very easy and intuitive interface, and you can create just about any fluid sim you can dream up and export to VDB such that Daz can swallow it. It's just painfully slow for my poor old HP15 though, so I'm always on the lookout for pre-rendered VDBs that look interesting.
