The reason I ask is that I have an old Genesis Imperial Officer uniform bundle which is looking for separate obj to load for individual uniform items. So far so good BUT...
There is only one obj in the bundle which is the COMPLETE uniform.
If I can turn this obj into clothing, I can turn certain items transparent to remove them from the render, but how do I turn the full uniform obj into a clothing item that works?
I particularly like this package as it has numerous alternative textures and items for everything from a lieutenant to a grand admiral 😊 but can it be done?
November 10, 2022 at 10:23 AM #1888234The old OBJ format is for a mesh of polygons. They CANNOT be broken into pieces easily as it is an "all in one".
To do this, you should "clone" and "crop" the parts, apart from generating the remaining support polygons of the elements.
If it can be done, it can. It will take, if you don't have skill, about two years...
The most logical thing would be to start from scratch, and "recreate" the objects separately.
You can use Blender, Rhinoceros or Maya. ZBrush is more for organic...
(Just thinking about it makes me goosebumps...)November 10, 2022 at 4:18 PM #1888347You can split an OBJ into parts, I do it all the time. BUT I'm wondering why a Genesis item would be looking for OBJs? They're a Poser thing - did you DSON the outfit into Poser? Another thing is that although you could split the outfit up, unless you do it the same way as the original, none of the morphs are going to work.
Where did the outfit come from?
November 10, 2022 at 9:07 PM #1888424If what you need is the uniform that is a single obj to be split into multiple objs parts, then i can do it for you for free. Making the objs wearable presets is another issue however
November 11, 2022 at 12:40 PM #1888726OK long story, but it's fixed. Basically, there was a major error in the directory that DAZ was trying to find. As long as I load the clothing items individually, and the fact that I've created a ghost directory, it now loads fine!!
Also, if I load the full uniform obj into Blender, the individual items (boots, belt etc.) can be saved out, but as I say I don't need to do that 🙂
Thanks for the suggestions 🙂
