Does anyone know if Torment will work without 14? My roommate tried to update to 14 (they were worried it wouldnt work anymore bc daz tends to be shit) and did it normally, and it didn't do anything, still at 4.12. They also have over a decade of Daz experience.
I'm worried about updating for the same reasoning, that it would ruin the pc, no longer run as good, etc, but I really want to use Torment because of his horns and tail. His model is beautiful and so is his add on characters but his horns and tail is the best horns and tail I have ever seen on Daz. The rest just... dont compare. The options for skin like tails are bare to none.
I'm sure someone will come and correct me if I am wrong. I believe the issue is that there were updates to the Genesis 8 Starter Essentials as part of the 8.1 release. So, you need to upgrade to 15 so you get the new Essentials updates. Don't quote me on that, but I believe it is the case.
You can load the 8.1 characters in 4.14 or below, however they will not have access to any of your Genesis 8.0 morphs and other things. So you will be very limited.
But I have done it, it is possible. So nothing is going to blow up or anything.
You will need 4.15 for the new skin shader, otherwise anything that uses this skin shader will not work correctly. I don't know if Torment uses that shader. I think Daz gives 2 material presets with their 8.1 releases, one for Iray and one for the new shader, but I could be wrong.If you are scared of updating you can try the Daz beta instead. You still need to install the Genesis 8 Essentials, but this will not keep you from using 4.14 and below if you still have them.
You can also install the new Genesis 8 Essentials without even updating to 4.15, but you still can't use the full 8.1 feature set like I said.I go back and forth between the beta and full version all the time. No particular reason really. I only use 4.15 when I am using 8.1 people, which is pretty rare. On my machine the 8.1 characters take WAY longer to load than 8.0 ones. Long enough to make me not want to use them. On the forums you will see that some people are complaining about long load times, so I am not the only one.
Update:
They got it to update, and they have access to use all expressions and morphs from Genesis 8 on Torment, and they are loading in fine and perfect.
Believe me, Daz is shit and has been for a long time I believe it! Many bugs, zero customer service, and a lot of bullshit products with issues they let on their market.
I think they mentioned the textures didn't work until they updated but the morphs for Genesis 8 definitely worked for Torment 8.1.
