If you are annoyed at the big banner at the front page like I am, you can use Adblock Plus and block an element (the banner) to hide it completely. It makes the site a lot better to use and you don't have to scroll down that much on PC to see the new posts.

Or, you could enter the banner contest and maybe replace it with something better? :p

@amberkat I have nothing against the current banner art. It just takes a lot of space when you just want to enter the site and check the new posts and not be presented with a banner that takes 90% of the screen (at least on my PC browser).

Below is normal banner taking 100% of the screen and above is banner removed with adblock. I find the first photo to be much better looking.

"....don’t have to scroll down that much on PC to see the new posts."
Why don't you just bookmark the All Posts page that doesn't have the banner?

My 'gripe' is with the All Post page [and other sections that act similarly].

I mainly use a TV/Monitor connected to my laptop via HDMI.
The screen is around 8ft away from me [lazing on couch - a-la-potato].

This means that I like to zoom in for bigger details on many items.
Unfortunately the banner strip at the top also grows, and at 200% takes up half the screen height.
Apparently, having asked, the height of this section cannot be set to a fixed height or percentage of the screen height [??].
Since this arrangement means I cannot sit 18" away from the screen, zooming gets annoying.
One day, when no longer working abroad, I will be able to relax at my desk without this issue.
    Oh well...
