When Windows 10 was released Microsoft said it was the last Windows and that it would be updated on an on going bases. Fine, I get it.

I don't understand what Microsoft thinks it's accomplishing. They seem to continue to change and adjust things, and never ever really finish anything. Icons for example, it would be nice if they all matched. Some of the icons I swear are the same ones used in Windows over 25 years ago. An other icons have probably changed more than 25 times (if you get "Insider Previews" like I sometimes do.). Yes, the Windows Explorer icon has changed multiple time in Insiders Preview builds, and then never released as an official update. What a waste of an employees time... but here's my real rant:

File Explorer. More over UWP File Explorer. If you don't know what I'm talking about it's because it's an unfinished project hidden within Windows 10. It supports the Dark Theme. It's been hidden within Windows 10 since at least October 2016. A file manager is a key part of any OS, but it seems Microsoft has left this abandoned. If you want to check out this hidden, unfinished project open Windows Explorer and simply paste this into the location field:

    explorer shell:AppsFolder\c5e2524a-ea46-4f67-841f-6a9465d9d515_cw5n1h2txyewy!App

I'm not the only one who wants to see this project completed. People have been crying for this since Windows 10 was released with that glaring white background... It's a killer on a larger monitor... more so at night.

    ... ranting done.

Yes, I could have posted this rant in a forum for Windows, but I didn't want to listen to Windows Whining. I'd rather here from people who use things like 3DS who find Windows Explorer a pain. If that makes any sense.

Thank you for that. i almost forgot to do this last FSU. That reminds me, I've got to load the GODMODE too. Oh, here's a cartoon that I wish I could edit to state Microsoft instead of AOL.

it's an executable file but it's not a virus. Back in the day that's how these were made.

Ha, I remember those files. Sierra Games would often release similar full screen animations via their BBS to say "Thank-you", often around Christmas/season greetings/new years.

While I complain about Windows I still find it to be my fave (current) OS. I've used many different Linux distros, and I've used OSX and macOS. Over everything I've tried over the years my all time fave OS was OS/2 (Warp).

I'm a tester of 'everything' software and hardware. Using 3DS (DAZ) is big weak spot for me. Finding DAZ related "stuff" (tips, sites, forums, etc) is more of what I do with DAZ. Hopefully I'll soon get into learning how to actually use DAZ to create and render something.

Alternate explorer seems very tablet/phone oriented, and feature limited. Remember Windows 10 core is now shared across all platforms, phone, tablet, pc (desktop/laptop) so there are a few other apps like that in the distro that make more sense on a tablet then a PC. And the frequent updates are crap. Disable windows update service. After i've built and get a stable install, that shit gets turned off. Manual patching after that, like the good old days.

If you're using the insider preview version of Windows then you're a beta tester and you should expect inconsistency. Having said that there are some things I've noticed about Windows 10 that annoy me a little and I wish were improved. But MS have been very forthright about their stance that Win10 will be around for the foreseeable future and will span many platforms (as stated by @aftyrbyrn) so will be updated and changed regularly.

I removed the 1803 update because I saw what is an already intrusive operating system go that one step further. I mean how many sliders do you need to switch off one app FFS! And no, I don't need the bloatware or all the other junk Windows 10 comes with. I've locked the monster down the best I know how.

    Rant over.

DON'T EVEN GET ME STARTED ABOUT WIN10...

I don’t understand what Microsoft thinks it’s accomplishing

It doesn't *think*, it *has* accomplished.

You see, the first thing you need to understand about Win10 and M$ in general, it the shift in ideology from "Windows as an application" to "windows as a SERVICE".
That's right, the whole entire point of Windows now is that it is NO LONGER a monolithic application, distributed to client machines. Windows (beginning in 8, fully implemented in 10) is now a Service, and as such, a monolithic application no longer need be deployed in any of a thousand different flavors (which were all accounted for in the installer)... Now, Windows has a basic universal setup framework, and being a service, the framework then fetches just the modules your machine needs (and yes, those "other" components that M$ deems you "need" as well!) from the network.
On the one hand, this makes sense - to streamline the distribution model; on the other hand, it SUCKS because you can never have a stable platform matured on your client... the server will forever and always fiddle a fux your platform for you, whether you like it or not. And guaranteed, if you're more than a Nerf User, you won't like it. It also means via the Service Model, M$ now has broad and sweeping "rights" over you, your machine, and your data, and the ever-evolving ability to manage it all as it sees fit.

Welcome to the future... better learn Newspeak and stay away from thoughtcrime.

This is (just a part of) why I stick with 7, and will do so until it's no longer practical in realworld application.
