I'm done with Daz. After countless tutorials, hours messing around with the program, and trying to get the *&%^# content manager thingy to work, I am done. I don't know why, but this program and I just do not get along.
That being said. I'm sticking around and plan to continue the contests. After all, don't have to render stuff to appreciate it.
June 27, 2018 at 8:23 AM #656529True the learning curve is frightening and there is no true documentation (most is obsolete or stupidly simplistic). You have to learn from your mistakes and choose your way to do things (there are several), actually Daz Studio is versatile. BUT the first thing is to be able to understand the file system which is complex and obscured by Daz Poser history. When you understand (a bit) you can organize YOUR files, while if you use connect or DIM you will be the slave of the system.... Prefer manual install (and removal, keep a copy of all your files ready for reinstall) and build your own directories (yes may be tricky because of poser legacy issues), you will lose a lot of time at first.... But you will master the beast and become faster and faster (in about 3 to 6 months). Then you will have to understand lights and shaders.... It is not a cheap travel. But it can be VERY REWARDING.

June 27, 2018 at 11:03 AM #656630DAZ' "content manager" and setup is abysmally bad, so no surprise you're having issues. I've had to rebuild and redo my DAZ setup at least 3 times since I started (mostly due to me finding "better ways" of doing stuff, or moving shit around), and it's a pain every single time.
I do use DIM, though - I make every asset I download into a DIM-capable installer, if they're not already, and it does keep stuff easier to control. It does not, however, place things in logical places, always, especially when creating your own. That is a minor issue, that is possible to overcome, if you set aside a few hours (or days, in my case, since 9000+ assets takes a bit of time to go through).
However, the program itself, though poorly documented, with bad UI and shitty optimization, is not that hard to use. The problems usually start when you want to do something outside what DAZ' creators thinks you should be doing, or when adding a shitton of assets in a scene (again, depending on hardware, ofc).
Personally, my current pet-peeve is their abysmally bad Bridge-functionality, to send scenes to Iray render servers. That could really do with an update 🙁
