As example, I want to get some poser things but I dont use poser, this obviously has very specific markings, etc

Is there a converter you guys have used that works good for things like animals or creatures? Or one you have used?

I've heard that if you try to render Poser shaders and Iray shaders the program crashes? That;s just my concern.

You should be fine. I usually convert everything to iray for render speed purposes, but DS will render a mixture of iray, 3DL, and old-school Poser materials.

As long as you have downloaded the Default Resources that goes with DAZ Studio, you should have something called "!Iray Uber Base" in and amongst your "Shader Presets" folder within DS. That will convert pretty much anything to iray. I use the thing all the time w/o issue, and very few surfaces fail to convert over (and I have crap from the days of Poser 4/PPP lurking about).

Just as a test, before you spent the money, I just downloaded one of the author's models from the same era (Poser 6). It renders fine as it is without any conversion but a lot of the effort and detailing that has been put into the model is lost without conversion as LP pointed out - it's very true in this case.

To convert to Iray, I selected the base figure, CTRL-A to select all the parts, switched to the surfaces panel, CTRL-A again, and applied the Uber Iray shader to everything simultaneously. I then added subdivisions (Edit -> Object -> Geometry -> Convert to SubD) and set it to level 2 to get rid of the blockiness.

Finally, I used the shader to add a bit of glossiness and SSS, then boosted the bump and normal maps which were completely invisible to Iray before.

The 1st pic is out-of-the-box, no conversion done. The second is post conversion.

Total time? 5 to 6 mins. If you put a bit more time into it than I did, you'll end up with something very nice.

They're great models, worth the money, you'll have no problems using them and the manual conversion is painless.

    @Cheviot

I am rarely on this website asides posting some content I would like once or twice a month. I do not check my notifications. I check my email and when I see a response of a message there, I will usually hop on and check my messages to give people their bounty.

If you are this actively upset over someone having a life outside of a pirating website, especially working over full time hours, and not responding back instantly when you think others deserve a response when I haven't even had time to test what they've said to make sure it works and if it doesn't, ask further questions to see why our results differed, you may need to step back a bit.

My days off for the entire week I have worked morning until night to do so aren't even until tomorrow.

Not everyone is fully invested in this website to hound other people for replies. It takes me less then 10 seconds to make a forum over something I would like during my small work break and leave it. It can take me several hours to do a render, let alone the actual rendering time. How can I tell any of you what "helped me" if I don't have the time to even try it yet?

I'm not going to clog the feed of my post after every single comment with a small comment, I'm going to wait until I have the chance to sit down and test what they've said, each one, and then make one comment address them all to see if what they said worked or if it was successful, or a failure and something went wrong and to see if they can help me work through it. I like my forums to be neat and in one area FOR those who have the same question as me and as someone with learning disabilities and processing struggles, it makes it easier for me to understand things being said to me. Asides that, not everyone wants several notifications for a forum post. I'd rather use one notification then have several pop up.

Asides that, not everyone is social, not everyone can just pop a message like it's nothing. Not everyone is neurotypical. Commenting on forums and messaging is extremely draining for individuals like myself and it's not just "nothing". It's a daunting task that somedays are easy, some days are not.

That, and if I haven't closed the post, that must mean I am still open to suggestions for other people to come by and drop if they have other methods or questions.

Good morning, now I need to get ready for work and if you wouldn't mind, please do not comment irrelevant things on my topic forum, thank you.

Since it's absolutely imperative I respond immediately without anything to add to you or ask, I will test out what you have mentioned more than likely sometime tomorrow or Monday if I have the chance on my time off.

Before this gets more nasty and Cheviot gets more disrespectful to Gabriel, I'm closing this thread.
