I have and use Adobe Premiere often, but for quick-n-dirty cut and assembling of clips I was wondering what else there is. Everything I've found is huge and involved, pretty much a Premiere clone. Does anyone have experience with something quick and simple?
Thanks for any insight.Here's a simple one. Portable so you don't even have to install it.
I use and enjoy OpenShot. Open source, multi-platform, it must be simple if I can use it 🙂
Argh....admitting defeat after an afternoon of trying a variety of 'simple' and free video editors I've come back to Davinci.
After shopping at the market this morning, I sent my wife off to visit her sister down by the coast and sequestered myself in the garage, determined to do battle with a very (VERY) old car. The battle lasted less than five minutes when a screwdriver slipped and left a nasty gouge in my delicate little hand. After bandaging it up I sat down here in defeat and started downloading a bunch of free and simple editors.

I have DaVinci (and Premiere Pro) and love it but I don't use it often enough to stay familiar enough with it. Each time I use it (or several other programs) I have to spend a while stumbling through as I re-familiarize myself with the damn thing. Even Photoshop, which I've used almost daily, professionally since the very first version, leaves me looking a few seconds for this or that.
I was hoping that there was something that was simple and straight forward enough it could be used instantly even if you hadn't touched it in months. OpenShot looked perfect except for the glacial playback and almost dead-in-the-water scrubbing.DaVinci has one HUGE advantage over Premiere in that it opens EVERYTHING, even those badly ripped, sleazy JAV vids.
Anyway, thanks for the input. Hopefully I saved someone else some hunting.

Not sure it opens "everything" but works really fast and you don't need to reencode anything.Blender has a video editor built in, however I haven't used it in a while.
Doesn't Windows 10 and Windows 11 come with a video editor built in?
Windows does have a video editor but it's laughably bad and VERY Windows-centric. It only outputs to WMV and trying to open and work in other formats isn't easy.
Never thought of it...heck, I didn't know they had a video editor. I've got a copy coming in via 1337x torrents. TPB was worthless.
Thanks, I'll let ya know.I used to use but it and Sony Vegas a lot. Haven't used either in ages, so don't know what the newest versions are like.
I liked corel - found it easy to get used to. 🙂
I use VEGAS Pro 12, it's a feature rich video editing programme with all the bells and whistles for professional work.
After it was taken over from MAGIX, I had a lot of problems. I was not able to open V12 files. Too bad actually. So I still use the 12 version for many years. The advantage is that VEGAS uses the Cudas from my graphic card.A BIG thanks to all the suggestions. Some of these wouldn't run on my Win7 box and I've saved the installers for my soon to be functional Win10 killer box.
In the end I went back to Premiere Pro. I looked up the basic tools and made a crib sheet for reference. It's interesting how things will come back as you play. I would remember being able to do this or that which led me to a quick search to pique my memory on how it was done.
