    Hello everybody!

I need your experience with DAZ3D. I’m working with this program over 2 months now and I’m still excited about its features and I’m learning every day. I’m always trying to avoid any questions since there are so many tutorials outside and I learned a lot.
This is a very specific problem and I can’t find a solution in the internet so I hope that one of you guys can help me.
    The topic is about shells.
Shells are used for skin surface among other things. I currently have three applications for shells: dirty skin, golden palace (female genitalia) and realistic tears. Every one of these applications works perfectly as long as used alone (!). As soon as I combine two shells for one character, for example a dirty skin with a golden palace genitalia, one of them isn’t working anymore.
To remain with the example, the golden palace doesn’t accept the material transfer anymore as soon as I activate the tears or the dirty skin. I already tried to activate the dirty skin before the golden palace genitalia but this also doesn’t work. The genitalia shell is still there but as mentioned before, it doesn’t accept the skin material and remains in another color. If I click the eye symbol on the dirty skin shell (for hiding it) – boing, the golden palace shell works perfectly. The same applies for the realistic tears shell….
So my question is, can several shells be used at the same time and if so, what am I doing wrong? Thank you in advance.

Not quite sure what you mean, but if it's what I think you do, open scene tab and select the geometry shell. Open parameters, then move down and select shell. On the right should be a selection of parts with On or Off below. Scroll down until you come to the vagina parts, or Golden Palace , and switch to off. That should sort it out. You need to do this for each geometry shell you load onto your figure.

    Hope that helps.

For Golden palace (Vagina),lickalicious (Tongue), and Headlight(nipple), the author have address it in their Readme.txt (this why reading readme is pretty important, granted their Readme also confusing as heck) that the shell will be going white if you use two of them at the same times, the fix is simple tho: e.g if you have lickalicious and golden palace active, select golden palace shell, then scroll the menu from Lickalicious, there a menu called shell fix, click it,and your golden palace will be fixed

Thank you for your input but I already tried this as I read the same with the shell fix. I was so happy when the color changed and I was like “yeah! Now I know what it was intended for” but when I zoomed in I recognized that it is still different. It was not so intense like before but still there.
Edit: maybe I selected in an incorrect order... I will also check this out. Thank you

I think David may be right. It is also what i think is happening.

Script that use geoshell sometime have by default all part of a body on "visibility ON", even if most of the part have no texture, making them transparent.

But when playing with multiple layer of geoshell and sometime, different shader of texture and lighting, if something is transparent, it doesn't mean it's still "not there". And it sometime create weird interaction between each other.

Anyway, has a rule of thumb, when using a ressource that use the geoshell tool, you should always make sure to click on the geoshell and turning to OFF all part of the geoshell that are not relevant to the section concerning the texture you are applying on your character. It's sometime teadious, but....in the end, it save you some unwanted problem that could happend in the futur.

when there's more then one shell you have to run the shell fix on every shell but you have to apply it to each shell separately or it will only run on the first selected shell. I have some characters that have in the 5-10 range of shells. They also work well for tattoos if you don't want to modify the base skin in any way. Some shells if they occupied the same space. Example having golden palace and a tattoo geoshell that puts a tattoo on the area of golden palace will cause a layering issue. To fix this simply increase the offset on the tattoo geoshell by .01 until it looks good.

Hello again! First of all, thank you very much for your professional help in this matter. I really appreciate the time you've spent. I checked all your advises but unfortunately nothing has helped. I guess this is a compatibility problem with regard to the dirt skin effect since all your explanations make sense to me.
    What I did:

    1. I made the golden palace shell fix for every shell available, which was for the golden apace itself (two shells) and the dirty skin shell
Something happened but the only change was from bright to less bright but still recognizable.

    2. I turned off the visibilities and I tried every possible combination in the parameters. I’ve found the golden palace entry but nothing happened when turned off. I did this for every shell but it didn’t work.

Again, I guess it is a compatibility problem so nevertheless thank you very much for your help.

Golden Palace GeoShell remain grey no matter what I do.
I load a new character, it works well
but change the pose, gone.. a greyed golden palace.
I dont use any geoshell apart from the F*******king Golden Palace GeoShell
F***ed my whole night trying to fix this... no use
    Waste of time and effort.

    I want a solution 🙁

I wish I could help, but I've decided that unless I am using a full-length body pose and exposing all the shells at once, I just use the one that is the current focus. Another option I have used is Photoshop on extremely high res and zoom. There I use the healing fix to take a texture that is the right color and add change the color post rendering.

Trust me, I realize the trouble that seems to be, but once you zoom out, you never see the fix. Static poses are easy, but I get if you have a sequence of more than a few it's very tedious. What matters to me is the realism of the end product. Sometimes I just have to pose the character or use the camera to move past the issue.

I'm sure you've thought of or done something similar. I just wanted to let you know you're not alone in this regard. The one that bugs me most is using some of the tools for wet effects when showing the entire model in a swimsuit or a nude and the problem peeks through. So I hear ya. I'm gonna try a few of the above solutions as well in the future.

Its been a bit since ive used shells and my memory isnt great so take that into account.

If I recall I had an issue with geo shells. What the issue was I dont remember but I do vaguely remember how I fixed it.

First I created an invisible shader. Basically I turner turned everything off in the texture, set it to zero cutout and created a small black square to use as a cutout template just in case. I then applied it to the entire shell.

I manually went back and added the textures I wanted to the area I wanted to show. SSS, texture bump, everything.

Pretty sure I remember it working.

Also make sure the shells are on different distances from the character. if they are both .01 away then they will overlap. at least thats what ive read.

A geoshell is a perfect copy of the mesh of the genesis figures, and that included the surfaces. Golden Place is a geograft which mean it graft some meshes onto the genesis figures, and it has it own surfaces. Geoshell doesnt know this, so the geograft surfaces remain blank, thats why you see white.
When you turn off the golden palace surface on your dirt shell, it just mean the geoshell will ignore that region, hence the different between the body and the genitalia region. One is dirty, and one is nothing, so you will notice the different right away.
To fix this, click on your dirt shell, and click the surfaces tab, then find the golden palace surfaces(Labia, rectum, torso, vagina...) and load the base iray uber shader on them.
Then right click the torso (for g8f) or body (for g8,1f) and click copy selected surfaces.
Finally just paste them on the golden palace surfaces.
If there were still any problems, try changing the UV of those surfaces to default.

    To Alpha:
You're a legend bro. Been struggling with this for hours. Finally working now thanks to you and your 5 year old post.

    For others still having trouble:
    1. Select Shell of the object causing issues (Will say "Shell" in it's name)
    2. Select Parameters tab.
    3. Use "Shell" dropdown menu, then "Visibility" Dropdown menu.
    4. Select Surfaces, then switch the parts you don't want the shell to cover to "Off."
