This one almost didn't make it. It was, and still is, super grainy. I had to add a lot of post work to make it not so. I tried so many different lights, removing the ceiling, HDR's, emission, lumins, luminance, spot lights, pin lights, mesh lights--ghost kit, tone mapping: exposure, firefly filter, noise filter, bloom filter (on or off), different white points, sizes, caustic & architect on or off, crush blacks higher or lower and lightprobes. But I liked it too much to NOT try. There are artifacts, but, still. I love star wars :p
I meant to post it for Valentines day, but it took too long rendering + playing "wtf am I doing," with the lighting and tone mapping and yadda yadda trying to de-grainify it, I just sorta said, "f it. "
February 16, 2018 at 2:42 pm #497735Still looks cool. I like the lack of lighting.
Has a cantina feel. The lightsaber blade looks to much like a glow stick. Why is he facing away from her? Trying to get away?February 17, 2018 at 1:38 am #498319think its in french but if your dont understand that just watch.

February 17, 2018 at 11:27 pm #499426I actually followed their instructions for bloom settings (found via deviant art). Alas, it just did not work with this render--I had so many lighting issues. Also I tried adding a motion blur (which I think didn't work as well as I'd hoped.) thanks!
February 18, 2018 at 2:20 am #499566Ah well. Im considering trying a tube within a tube. I havent tried to render a saber in awhile. perhaps a bright white tube in a red/blue/green ect... semi transparent sheath. I like to stay away from post work if at all possible even though its probably easier to do.

February 18, 2018 at 3:45 am #499616The bloom settings are pretty close what is needed. The problem is the colors of the sabers is off. Consider how lightsabers look. The blade is almost white, or very near white, while the light created by the blade is what has color.
So you need to change the surface settings to match. The main colors should be very faintly colored, while the light emitted has the color you want.
The bloom effect size determines how large the color aura is around the blade. No need for a tube prop to do this, the bloom can do it perfectly if set right.Trying to do motion blur...eh, just do that in post, LOL.
February 18, 2018 at 5:33 am #499684Emitter colour determines the colour of the prop in DAZ once you get particularly bright at all so you almost never see the colour of the object itself. This is largely realistic, we see light.
The easiest way to get the lightsaber effect in DAZ is to use a bright light-tint (or white) emissive core and a semi-transparent outer object with a coloured emissive.
Bloom in iRay is pretty indiscriminate, i'd definitely use it in this situations, but you need to watch out for the other scene highlights since it won't just bloom the emissive texture.
I recommend using an iRay preview while you're setting up the saber effect... it may refresh slowly depending on your PC but it can save a lot of frustration later if you 'get it right' before rendering.
February 24, 2018 at 5:21 am #506964Critique? @Littesparrows, I like the premise but the scene depicts a figure with his head cut off and laying on the floor so the act of cutting his head off has already happened and the energy has been expended as his head has come to rest. The fact you have the lightsaber moving around, along with some blurring depicting motion seems inconsequential and a little confusing, especially as the colour of the saber also matches the colour of the figures face holding the blade. I think it would be more effective to just have the lightsaber at rest in the figures hand, with that figure languishing. Both figures would echo the same level of energy then and it will allow the viewers eye to play out the events leading up to the current scene.
Also, big empty space on the left hand side, fill it or remove it. You've got reflected light laying across it, my advice would be to use that to focus on the box of chocolates laying open because in shadow and standing up as it is, it just looks like a book unless you really concentrate.
