"Daz is still based on Qt 4.20, released in 2005."

Fun trivia: DAZ Studio 1.0 released in late 2005. The guy who originally wrote the DS core is long gone, methinks, and I'm not sure the guys they have now are confident enough to re-create it in Qt6.

And yeah, that script is sus. I think they did it so they could use that homebrew encryption feature to soothe vendor fears of, you know, piracy (hehe.)

The encryption is OpenSSL v1!! (libeay.dll and ssleay.dll)
It's severely insecure, and trivial to monkey with. Rooting around in the Daz engine I noticed MD4 and MD5 being used in "sensitive" places. Maybe that'll be my next project...

DazScript is just a lazy Dazzy reimplementation of Qt script (which is just Qt's custom ECMA script, and darned good), and fails to expose some very critical public members of many of the widgets you should be able to script for. Hazeltoons is also unwilling to help beyond "your script needs to be a plugin then". Yikes, I feel bad for those people trying to get script help. I'll just sit by with my popcorn.

I have fun news for everyone. DAZ 5 (6*) is in alpha testing. It's currently available on DIM for some people (I'm not part of the some people, but I know someone who is).
Seems they plan on doing a full release this year still, with the 2025 naming. Also implying they're going to do yearly major releases.

So, I guess people are right; DAZ 5 will never be released, because they're skipping it and going to DAZ 6. I suppose the people are DAZ are aware of the stigma around DAZ 5 and chose to just not deal with it at all.

On the messages about code rewrites; yes, DAZ 4.23 still runs on the original DAZ 1 core from 2005. That's why when you install DAZ, it also installs .NET Framework 2005. I'm hoping, I've been hoping, and suspect DAZ 6 is a complete rewrite. The person I know that has access to the alpha says it has RTX 50-series support, which means the latest Iray is also incorporated.
This might actually be a turning point for DAZ where they actually start to work on their software and make it better.

EDIT: I was sent this link talking about the new alpha. Also, apparently, it's not that some people don't qualify for the alpha, but more so that there's just some issue with DIM not making it available for everyone and DAZ is busy working on fixing it.

Yeah... not sure about that. A beta is one thing, but an alpha???

They don't usually publicly announce those!

It looks like the public are the canaries this time. :0/

also i think this would worry many, seeing that they now match the naming conventions of other software (Autodesk, Maxon, Adobe, CLO/Marvelous Designer), day by day it's starting to feel like they will move from free to subscription when it releases.

For the say so I updated DIM & tried to D/L it.

Whilst it is ticked in the Download Filters, it does not appear in the Ready to Download tab.

I suspect that is the main issue others will be experiencing too.

Oh it’s definitely not appearing for a large majority of users. Since we all know DAZ sucks at manually adding content to every account

I suppose another upcoming issue will be plug in compatibility. :0/

I think they're trying to drum up excitement, especially with all the memes of DAZ 5 going around.
But I do also agree that the userbase is now turning into the testers.

I also think between DAZ Premier and the naming convention of the new DAZ, they're trying to get us accustomed to the idea of a subscription service. As Scoobydude51 mentioned, every other software that has the year as the version number is a subscription service, and that's the association they're trying to make early on with an alpha release.

i also believe they skipped 6 is because just like DS4 it's named after the version of QT (DAZ Studio 4 uses QT4 and DAZ Studio 6 is using QT 6)

but yes, i feel like DAZ Plus and Premier will be the subscription that'll be forced on everyone just to use DAZ Studio.

especially with DAZ Studio 2025 alpha INCLUDES the premier plugins.

And all those subscription based programs get cracked almost instantly. I'm sure Studio will be the same.

Reading about it on the forum. I think I'll stick with 4.23 right now.

At least there is compatibility for those with RTX 50 series (handy if I decide to upgrade my graphic card sometime in the future)
