The Basic Instinct 2 promo posters are perfect examples of how not to use Photoshop.

Totally!February 26, 2026 at 10:20 PM #2165165I have no question whatsoever that the marketing team(s) that produce these movie posters use Photoshop etal. But on a slight tangent, what actually intrigues me more is...why?
They have an actual woman sitting in an actual chair. Imagine the conversation: "Of the dozens of photos we've taken of Sharon Stone posed in the chair, none of them feeeeel right. We need her knee higher. Her ankle has to twist just so. She isn't slouched languidly enough." and so on. But the idea that the exquisitely precise details of Sharon Stone sitting in a chair is going to effect whether some plebe is going to decide to pay money to watch the film is beyond my comprehension. Perhaps the subconscious effect of the debatable anatomical inconsistency was enough to drive ticket buyers and Blockbusterâ„¢ members away.
I understand that there are production complications I can't readily conceive of. But I get that Joe Esterhas probably took a look at the mock-ups and demanded whimsical changes that defy artistic and physical sensibilities. Joe, it's just a shadowy woman sitting in a particular way in a fucking chair. And when all is said and done, short of this niggling controversy, no one even remembers that this garbage movie was ever made. Imagine Sharon Stone taking a stiff drag from her extravagantly long inlaid pearl, platinum-tipped bakelite cigarette holder, "If it wasn't for that shitty anatomically-incongruous movie poster, I'd have an Oscar! A fucking Academy Award!! Joe should've pushed those damned marketing team Photoshop monkeys harder! Harder, I say!! Damn them all to Hell!"
