Now I know why I've been sadder that usual these past few days. Isao Takahata passed away.
He was the co-founder with the disney glory-boy Miyazaki of Studio Ghibli. Though it was sold to disney some time ago, the original founders maintained some say so in the films it produced. With the retirement of Suzuki shortly after the release of Grave of the Fireflies, Takahata would enjoy his final years in Japan. NausicaƤ Manga owes it's origins to Studio Ghibli and the creative genius of it's founders. I don't care what you are or how old you are, Graveyard of the Fireflies will have you in tears. If you'll excuse me, I'm going to watch it alone. As if the passing of Isao Takanata signifies the death of Studio Ghibli and NausicaƤ manga.

Graves of the Fireflies made me cry like a baby... I recommend it vigorously, but I can't watch it again. When I read the news of his passing, I was sad too.

Their films are iconic and deserve to be watched by everyone.

Grave of the Fireflies knows where to hit you and it strikes hard, especially the part where the girl is in a world of her own making mud pies...

The whole sense of loss that this film embodies is just perfect!

Grave of the Fireflies is one hell of a hard movie to watch. Funny how many Ghibli movies have such a deep melancholy embedded in the story.

So I’m kind of absent here while I hunt down,
    ā€œAnne of Green Gablesā€
And watch binge watch that series. The 1979 animated series BEFORE the series with Megan Follows. Next I’ll hunt down Heidi. I watched The Res Turtle And was not disappoint. I’ll still look forward to ā€œHow Do You Liveā€ but will be sad knowing he was supposed to direct it.
