I have a very simple request for those who share. I'm not pointing fingers so don't jump on me, because those of you that do this know who you are.
PLEASE don't modify any of the internal Content Folder files in ANY WAY SHAPE OR FORM!!! That means more specifically:
Don't change the content library pics by writing ZONEGFX over the top of it. I understand why, but please don't.
Don't change the data information of thumbs , replacing your name with the actual authors name. Its NOT YOURS to do that. Plus, if I choose a character by its thumbnail, not all characters are listed in the tree to the left by character name, so we can right click the thumb to see who the author is and THEN go to the tree. When you put your name in as the author, it creates unnecessary work to find it and thats not cool.If you want to modify files on your own PC, thats fine. Do what you want. But please leave the files you share as is. I'm not talking about Promo images, just the files inside the content folders.
Thank you
October 31, 2019 at 11:02 PM #1308909I so agree on this.
Also... if you're gonna share a DIM-file (which you should, if you have it / it's available):
Why the FUCK do you double-wrap it in a RAR-file, or otherwise annoy the fuck out of the rest of us? Some do include all the promo-material and template files and so on, which is good, don't get me wrong, but I don't care about it, nor do most of the users, so if you're gonna do that, maybe either use a folder on a Mega account (and link to the folder, so we can just go there and pick the DIM-file), or include the DIM zipfile AND a package file of the rest of the stuff.
Not to mention the morons that share a "DIM-file", that is missing the .dsx-files making it a DIM file, or otherwise having files slapped in the root folder and so on...
Is it really THAT hard to just... upload the zips as you got them from DAZ? Fair enough if it's from Rendo or other sites, then you share what you get from there - but there is absolutely NO POINT in modifying a perfectly good DIM zip, or re-compress it inside a RAR, or so on.
November 1, 2019 at 8:48 AM #1309368Absolutely spot-on.
There have been a number of post that relate to this topic - and all the ways that file changing pisses people off.Another favourite is changing the actual name of the DIM zip file - removing the IM000 part and altering what is left.
If you always install manually you will know what you are looking at, and select the files accordingly.
If you are new, or always use DIM, it can totally confuse the issue [you might not know how to restore the correct DIM format name].
If you purchase from DAZ - provide the file[s] in the exact format that you get it as a download.
As mentioned in other posts - stop altering content and formats.November 1, 2019 at 7:04 PM #1310004@fuzzy3000 in all fairness about the outer zip file name, I change the name. It doesn't matter if its a DIM file or not to me. This makes the file anonymous to Mega and Google when using their servers for storage. I've already had one account taken down where I wasn't doing that. But everything inside is untouched.
This doesn't alter the content inside. I realize this may be annoying to some, but there are certain things we have to put up with when sharing files.November 1, 2019 at 11:14 PM #1310256I guess you could put a zip file in a zip file but, IMHO unless you change the contents drastically I dont care to much. If it works as intended it was free and saved me up to $150 in some cases for a bundle. I think I can live with a little frustration for $150 a pop.
November 2, 2019 at 4:57 AM #1310564Whether the changes matter to an individual or not - as stated by others:
Is it really THAT hard to just… upload the zips as you got them from DAZ?
The vast number of members manage it - without having 'big brother' pounce on them. Keep it simple for everyone.November 2, 2019 at 5:15 AM #1310580I second big NO NO on the "Zone GFX" thumbnail and author edits. Please stop it whoever is changing it, you are not the author of those files. Maintain file integrity for archival purposes.
November 2, 2019 at 12:03 PM #1311009LivingPixels makes a very good point. It is not clever to advertise that Zonegfx is the source of other site's content, this really puts this site at risk. How about serious points fines for anyone caught doing this?
November 2, 2019 at 4:59 PM #1311384Paul, I don't wish to get into a debate. I do understand your view. A solution would be to zip the original so you can then unzip and install the DIM. Then we'd annoy Errilhl. LOL but the original file name and content would be unchanged.
I just see a lot of recent content that WAS here being reposted here, so those files are going somewhere. Mega takes down a lot of stuff. I personally don't want to have to keep making new accounts. There's nothing wrong with being cautious and there's nothing wrong with having to do a little bit of work for getting free files. The computer does the work. We just click a couple buttons.
I do apologize if I've done that. I manually install so it doesn't even cross my mind. But it will be from now on. However, I will be zipping any DIM file inside an incognito zip/rar.
