i notice alot of this recently - these used to be considered duplicates postings as i have in the past had post removed for just this but know i guess if it goes reported or not it still stays up
have things changed??March 19, 2024 at 11:15 AM #2064809honestly i don't think it's the worst thing to put up things from those bundles. i used to have pretty awful third world internet and it was a pain to have to download a full GB+ bundle when I only wanted one thing from it. Used to have to wake up before sunrise when the network was somewhat faster because after that it got so slow that mega just spazzed out and got stuck.
edit: obviously with the understanding that the original person who filled the request be the one to put up the individual parts and not just some random person riding the coattails of that reposting them for points.
March 19, 2024 at 6:52 PM #2064864I think it is fine too, however there is this rule and people simply ignore it at the moment for easy points.
"– Only the individual who posts a Bundle retains the right to post the files individually."
from: https://zonegfx.com/faq/March 19, 2024 at 9:44 PM #2064898I agree with @Sham-Pooh on this one. For big bundles it would be nice if the sharer split bundles into their separate parts.
March 19, 2024 at 9:53 PM #2064902I am guilty of this. @TheDamnThing I clearly forgot about that rule, and I apologize.
I assumed it would be acceptable for others to share bundle pieces after a reasonable amount of time. In retrospect, I could have asked you if you intended to post them yourself. I really appreciate all the shares you bring here, and I hope I haven't offended you.
FWIW, I do agree with @sham-pooh. If you only wanted one item from a bundle like "Mega Bundle - Marley and Herlinda for Genesis 9" you'd have to download a 3.36 GB file.
So really I was just trying to help the less fortunate members! 😉March 19, 2024 at 9:57 PM #2064903Problematics:
- When takedowns lead to dead posts, and original poster doesn't or can't repost
- When original poster is no longer on forums
- When original poster switches user IDsNo real way of knowing what circumstances lead to dead posts or non-individual-posted assets unless declared or stated. And since original poster disappearing or switching IDs and posting/reposting individual or dead items is not a sin. And since - as an objective - dead posts are to be refilled for points by most anyone, any time, some rules should perhaps be more lax than others?
While some may be ignoring the rule, it's difficult to see how it could be enforced anyway due to said.
And how long is appropriate to wait for individual items from a bundle to drop before posting if member is active? Should a request for an individual bundle item go unfilled until the bundle poster fills it? How long? What if they're gone? What if they don't care? Maybe the bundle poster should post individual items at the time of bundle post if expectations of all potential points are a priority? Maybe that is considered duplicate posting? (It would have been in the old request system. But, in the new?)Rights to points can be recognized and upheld honor-style, but, some circumstances and logistics dictate unrestricted and un-miffed dissemination as a priority, imho. Personally, I would never take any offense at individual assets being posted from any bundle. The assets are shared, the points world goes round. I have no issue with bandwidth, so don't have a need to avoid bundle DLs; but can certainly see how it could affect access. And in the debate over bundles vs. individual posts, I, for one, always argued for posting assets individually over bundles either way for such reasons. Or both at the same time since they exist that way pre-share. But that was (is) just me.
Regardless, with points so easy and arbitrary, the primary still remains the upping, re-upping, and access to assets.
March 19, 2024 at 11:10 PM #2064931I think the rule doesn't refer to dead posts. Those are free-real-estate whenever they are actually moved into the Dead Post category, which means the original poster didn’t add a new link in a reasonable timeframe.
It (the rule) seems more like a respectful thing to me for the people who actually buy and post those bundles here, nevermind what goes on elsewhere.
@DeeBag no offense taken and i get your point reading this thread. Thinking about it, I don't mind much as long as items aren't posted before the bundle link is public. I do host bundles on mega in folders though, which makes it possible to download items individually already.March 20, 2024 at 12:29 AM #2064945On the topic of links, I updated half a dozen image links for my shares about 5 days ago, but instead of the image getting replaced I just get this. Is this normal? cc @Warrant63
The DL link still works fine and I just wanted the product image updated but it still has the broken postimg one.
March 20, 2024 at 12:35 AM #2064948@thedamnthing (et al) "I think the rule doesn't refer to dead posts. Those are free-real-estate whenever they are actually moved into the Dead Post category, which means the original poster didn’t add a new link in a reasonable timeframe."
Hypothetical A:
Bundle poster has takedown and dead post within short period of time (say 24-72 hours, even a week). Bundle poster misses dead link or doesn't know about it.Scenario 01:
New poster posts re-post of bundle for points before original bundle poster can react.
Problem? Original bundle poster miffed? Justified?Scenario 02:
New poster posts re-post of bundle AND individual assets for points before original bundle poster can react.
Problem? Original bundle poster miffed? Justified? Duplicate posts flagged?Scenario 03:
Requests for bundle and individual assets from bundle come up or are sitting in the new request system. New poster(s) come along and post bundle and individual asset(s) from bundle for points before original bundle poster can react.
Problem? Original bundle poster miffed? Justified? Duplicate posts flagged?Open season because dead-post supersedes all? What is "reasonable timeframe" to notice bundle-poster post is dead? 24hrs? 72hrs? A week?
Hypothetical B:
Bundle poster has been inactive for weeks or months. Bundle link is still active.
Same scenarios, 01-03. Same questions.
In Scenario 01, a duplicate post would most certainly be flagged. ...Right?
But... for Scenarios 02 and 03?To me, it's a slippery slope to unachievable expectations of points, rights, and definitions. Acquisition and "guarding" of points; enforcement of allocation of points, whether through moderators or community complaining infighting and shaming; definitions of "duplicates" -- especially with the new request system and the ability to have multiple requests for the exact same item running at the same time, with different separate fillers and requesters.
It all seems to be setting up to disaster if people are going to be offended at the points problem, especially if duplicates is a vague term and especially if bundle posters feel they've been slighted somehow when not posting individually at the onset, or not being allowed to.And the bundle vs. individual vs. both debate goes on.
March 20, 2024 at 1:39 AM #2064953.. a post is marked as Dead only after 7 days according to the FAQ.. a mail is sent to the poster and if there is no response even after 7 days, the post is marked as Dead..
.. the reasonable timeframe is 7 days.. 🙂once we have received a report of a Dead Link or Duplicate Post we will take the following action.
– Initially a message will be sent requesting an updated link for the post(s) concerned.
– After a period of seven (7) days if we have had no reply we will delete the post concerned. -
