    Hi all fellow poserversians !
I would like to share a thought about the anniversary of the famous Kickass Torrents site demise (around 19-20 July 2016). There was a vibrant community of daz-poser contributors there. It was shattered by the feds despite attempts to survive everywhere it was possible. It now seems that Zone GFX has taken the lead in propagating the faith through other means.... I hope most of my fellow KATers are here (some have kept their aliases while others have changed them for understandable security reasons). I remember fondly Thunderherd and Beaglebandit, are they here ?
This story should remind us that summer is dangerous for pirates : less attention, vacations, lack of reaction work for "the powers that be". We could think we have found a niche but it is always vulnerable, what would happen if Hunter suddenly disappeared (electronically I mean) ? Maybe we should have a common exit plan, just in case...

I've voiced the need for an exit plan (fire escape?) in the past but received little response. If this place goes down I assume we'll all just stumble around for a few months until another site takes the lead.

That is what usually happens, as getting a concensus on a compromise venue seems impossible.

This is why not all KAT refugees are here!

Not to mention that making plans for a backup venue would just give TPTB a head start on shutting that one down as well. OTOH, I doubt we're even on their radar. KAT was shut down due to the whining of the movie and music industries. Software and 3D asset piracy isn't even in the same ballpark as far as the feds are concerned.

Torrenting is almost dead when it comes to being a sharer with how almost all ISP have data caps now. I loved KAT when it was around and for a little while I and many other tried to bring torrenting back at pirate bay but it was not meant to be. Some people still share there but not often.

Thanks for the information you shared.
I do not think daz-poser piracy is a federal priority but note that Renderotica is much more proactive in counter-piracy operations. And this site depends on the goodwill of only ONE designer and owner (?). As a safety measure I still have a look at TPB and new KAT forums, but they are almost inactive as Kooroe stated, they remain as a rally point however... There could be Russian alternatives but language and security features may be a problem.
As a last note Hi to Beagle if he is around !

I believe that even the Doc at Renderotica has given up. I remember when the first item from R'otica was posted here, it was taken down within seconds forcing the poster to use a work around. Now, their items are shared openly on every site and I've yet to see a take down.

If anyone here speaks Russian, perhaps we could ask him/her/non-binary designator to request an English language list. It would be to their benefit.

@not-hunter My mega account was hit with a DMCA about 2 months ago for a Renderotica file.

@Kooroe Hmmm, and yet there's several R'otica files presently being shared here and on the other sites. I'm sure you've seen the just released naughty bits for G8 up for grabs. Maybe your's was a fluke or last gasp?

Anyway, back to Coreau's original point. The old-timers and hardcore geeks may be familiar with the Poser group on the usenet, "alt.binaries.3d.Poser". It's still active (although much less these days), and seeing that the usenet is indestructible and accessible by all, perhaps we should consider it. We can make a set of simple instructions for neophytes on how to access it in case of emergency. There are numerous free providers who allow text only which would be sufficient for keeping in touch. It might be a good spot for the 'core' members to regroup and come up with a plan.
---Or, make a Google or Yahoo group who's purpose would be limited to keeping in touch and providing a redirect in the event of a meltdown.

Oh god usenet. I have not used that in years but it might be a good idea to setup something like that.

There's a few porn groups still posting merrily away. The vintage and Playboy groups are quite active and (unbelievably) the movie and music groups are overflowing with stuff. Many of the porn group's files (my favourite) are now password protected with cryptic naming. Despite being a well know poster at one time, I've yet to get into the in crowd.
