Hi guys,
I'm looking for something to mimic ray of light coming from a flashlight. I had a flashlight kit who was supposed to come with this kind of feature, but it's not really doing well. So I was wondering if some of you were aware about some tool/light kit/etc fullfilling this kind of thing.
Thanks. 🙂
October 27, 2024 at 6:11 PM #2098152I believe a ghost light set will provide but can't remember the ones I use :/
October 27, 2024 at 7:43 PM #2098168Have a look through this.
Rendering volumetrics takes forever and personally I'd just fake it in postwork.October 27, 2024 at 9:11 PM #2098185Ghost light kit 3 does it, I dug into what was available a little more after Nyx's answer.
Thanks to everyone who repiled. 🙂October 28, 2024 at 2:35 AM #2098252I did it with light profiles long ago.
Can find a couple thousand free online.October 28, 2024 at 11:33 AM #2098336Light profiles you can load into Daz?
I was not aware of that, thanks.
Well I'll have a look into it for a next picture, the one I was working on is done now, the ghost lights kit did the job. 🙂October 28, 2024 at 12:52 PM #2098348Can be done quickly, cheaply in photoshop with two layers (black and white) and the shape
of the beamOctober 29, 2024 at 11:41 AM #2098519But then, don't you loose the volumetric effect, and how the light impact the environment around ?
October 29, 2024 at 12:34 PM #2098529I prefer to add that type of lighting in postwork. Volumetrics takes forever and I've never been too keen on the results.
Far easier to render your scene, then add light layers in Photoshop.

October 29, 2024 at 10:09 PM #2098680i'll take a look into it, I barely use Photoshop for this kind of stuff, so I'm not familiar with it.
October 30, 2024 at 12:21 AM #2098707Something like this maybe?
October 30, 2024 at 9:46 AM #2098802I gave it a try while working on my picture a few days ago, and it was not fitting. Even to mimic god rays through windows, I struggled.
I finally worked things out using the ghost lights kit 3: it has cone and cylinder lights perfect for a flashlight.
You can see the result on the art competition forum, trick or treat topic: I posted the picture there. 🙂 -
