So i have noticed that when using daz to render my image it is sucking the ram down hard. i have a gforce 1070ti and have the renderer set to use it but looking in the task manager it is not using the vid card at all to render but my ram which just seems to be making everything i do take that much longer in setting up scenes and loading them. is there something i can do to fix this?
December 9, 2020 at 10:43 PM #1648787First and most important question. Desktop or laptop? Huge difference in how video memory management occurs when using a laptop is why I ask.

December 10, 2020 at 10:25 AM #1648851It is not a laptop or desktop problem, but Iray's. All render is stored in RAM, before saving, regardless of size or textures, which Daz Studio creates in temporary hard disk textures, etc ... I hardly use Iray to do a test. Then I pass it all to Cinema 4D, with render engines like Octane or Arnold. And I do it with my old laptop, from 10 years ago,, 8 Gb RAM, with a Nvidia GT 540M of 2Gb of VRam! : D
More faster than Iray: Puarfggrhhh!December 10, 2020 at 6:02 PM #1648924Well, @ethiopia : I normally use Arnold renderer. Octane a bit, but I like Arnold's finish better. Years ago I used Maxwell a lot, which is great, but their latest versions don't support my (old ...) GPU. Maxwell was based on CPU, but the new versions support GPU: To render, as is, Maxwell is the leader to my liking. It is very easy to program lights, materials, etc., like Arnold.
Octane is pretty good, but it is surpassed by RedShift, which I have not tested, since it is GPU, but its drivers are quite extensive.
I discard Vray, which despite being very good, has parameters of long learning.
But why Arnold?
Simply because it is the one used by large companies now, apart from Pixar and its Renderman.
And that is a plus if you want to dedicate yourselves to 3D animation in the future.
Don't pretend to walk into an animation studio saying you know about Iray. - "The door is where you entered, bye! -".
Besides, you should know about Houdini, Clarisse, etc ..., as if you were getting up to piss at midnight.
So clear...
Another thing is to make posters for the bar in your corner.December 10, 2020 at 6:02 PM #1648925would it speed up anything using the octane renderer for daz3d? since i do not have cinema 4d could u export the scene to blender to render it?
December 10, 2020 at 6:22 PM #1648950@shimra bob, I don't recommend Blender. It's free, but it has a way of acting that is intrinsic. Exporting a fbx with its "armature" is like in Cinema 4D: They have their pivot rules that are not the ones used by Maya or MotionBuilder. That complicates trade things.
Just like Daz Studio's "wonderful" Fbx exporter / importer. - "Oh, I'm missing the root of the balls of the camel that you want to put me ... !! - LOL
They stay in their little world, in their companies: In their business.
I have already commented: Use Daz to export in obj and mdd, or alembic. Alembic is preferable, since Wavefront's Obj format "mtl" are very old, and do not recognize more than a general texture.
It is somewhat complicated, and laborious.
But, for me, Daz offers the best human model yet.
And, the "bridges" with other softwares, I don't understand why.December 10, 2020 at 6:31 PM #1648953I´m tired about this questions!! Arf! 😀
If you want to be in the saucepan, join the chickpeas.! 😀December 10, 2020 at 8:11 PM #1648967thanks abad. for some reason i was responding to ethiopia and your response to him was not there when i replied. if i am understanding u correctly i use daz to exprot to obj, mdd or alembic but to what program? basically blender was my choice cause it is free. with arnold being something with autodesk if i read right i know i cant afford that. so not really sure where i should be exporting it to. any advise on this would be welcome.
just trying to figure out what i can do to speed the render up since it is using my ram and not my gpu.December 11, 2020 at 10:36 AM #1649091@shimra
Let's see the options. You download a Cinema 4D or Maya via Torrent or wherever you want. (Always with the DuckDuckGo search engine, not in Google ...). Then the render plugin (Maya, now, include Arnold by default.), with the same searches. Try "Arnold for Cinema 4d / maya Torrent", or "Redshift for C4d", etc .... Install, and enjoy.
With the "daz to C4d" plugin, you open the "DazToC4d" file which is normally located in a "TEMP3D" folder on hard drive C.
Use the Alembic exporter (it is a daz .. plugin), and use the Fbx textures (of infamous geometry, if there are poses or animation, you have to edit the Dsa of "DazToC4d" or that of "dazToMaya", to tell it that "animation = true", otherwise, it exports a figure in position T.
Apart from that, if you are not going to use Vray or Octane, (which work like a fairground shotgun ...), you do not convert the material. Arnold swallows it perfectly, except in HD people (I think even in SD ...), that you have to reduce the Bump to 1%. (Sometimes he confuses Bump with Normal ..)
Cinema 4D is very simple (even to edit polygons ..), and it accepts all kinds of rendering engines.
And, you tell me. 🙂December 11, 2020 at 11:29 AM #1649107Anonymous
InactiveRank:
Try 1 basic figure and see if the GPU is used, if your scene is larger than your GPU memory, iray will fall back to CPU.
December 11, 2020 at 1:31 PM #1649129Redshift dont work in my GPU. (drivers, etc..) Never tested. (Only GPU)
Octane (GPU..) is good, also Arnold (The earlier versions of Arnold only work in CPU, but now, in both.)
More than Iray! 😀December 11, 2020 at 1:36 PM #1649130Answering a few points in the original post...
Task Manager can make it look as though Iray isn't using a GPU when in fact it is. Under the Performance tab, on the left side you look for your GPU and select it. Depending on whether you have the graphs set to single or multiple engine, you need to change what it is monitoring to "CUDA". The mini graph on the left won't show what Iray is doing... but when you change one of the main graphs to CUDA, you should see it fill up to 95% plus.
RAM fills up because Daz Studio does EVERYTHING in RAM. When it comes to rendering, it seems to decompress every texture from whatever format it is in (jpg, png etc) into a raw, uncompressed format, recompress it (depending on your render settings), and then pass it to the GPU. Don't ask why, I've no idea. But that's why Daz seems to chew up so much RAM. It also fills up with geometry, lighting and such. It doesn't really matter to me how much RAM is being used, so long as the GPU is doing the rendering. If that's the case, CPU usage rarely goes above 30%, leaving my computer able to do other light things (such as browsing or downloading) while rendering.
As a general rule of thumb, if the render is going, and CPU usage is not maxed out, then the GPU is doing the work, regardless of what Task Manager suggests. Again, change the graph to CUDA to see all the hard labour going on.
Hope this helps.
December 11, 2020 at 2:23 PM #1649138thanks alot for the help all. i will look into what has been said her and report back.
