" I am actually against a large community vote since their are a-holes that are just haters and could really mess up voting"

Anyone who enters a contest and votes for themselves is by definition an "a-hole", and "really mess up voting"

I think the point is to have people outside the contest voting so it can be less bias. If there's people who dislike you in the community that might be a whole other matter all together.

You might have to go on a positive speaking tour to fix that...

I do contests for inspiration. If a dick decides to down vote me just because they dont like me, it says more about them than it does about me. One a-hole in the group should stand out pretty well and voting on a curve may help. It would eliminate your own vote if you feel you deserve it and someone that hates you vote. If its good enough the up votes should place you in the top 3. I cant say I dont get discouraged since I dont win often but then that motivates me to try harder (at least till I decide to give up).

Personally Im a harsher critic of my own stuff than most others might be. However it does puzzle me sometimes when I believe something is passable and it fails.

Different people, different art educations (if any), different backgrounds, different moods at the time of voting, different tastes, desires and capabilities. It's hard to have a fair vote, when only 15 people vote. That's about the average of votes i get during contests. IF the majority of the users on the weren't just a bunch of leachers, and participated, it would be more interesting, and evenly balanced. I always toss out votes that go like 1,1,1,10,1,1,1,1,1 , especially when the 10 is their own, and everyone else was given a 1.
