For those of us who don't live in europe, or follow EU politics, Might it be possible to get a text summary of what kind of F*ckuppery they've committed THIS time?

As I understand it, the EU want all platforms that disseminate "media" to monitor themselves for "copyright infringement" or they will be held accountable. And they now hold that any regurgitation of a previously published work is now copyright theft, which means that sites can't utilise news from another source without being hit with a copyright strike. Taken to it's extreme, any review of a book, film or published media could be taken to court for breach of copyright under these rules, which shows how absolutely fucking insane it is. Or at least that's how I see it.

It's been described as the war on memes because memes use primarily copyrighted images and videos without any permission. This will mean that sharing or hosting a meme will mean you're breaking the law [if it get's into law].
