Yes, there are behaviour levels which are tolerable others not.
🙂
December 27, 2018 at 4:32 PM #897530For me it stems from way back.
When the Poser 3D community sprang up, it was run simlar to how the game modding community still works today.
Software was freely developed & shared amongst those that appreciated it.
Daz, amongst others, saw that there was money to be made from it & a lot of talented & less talented people agreed & took advantage of the situation.
In all honesty, it was a shrewd move, which I largely do not have an issue with in itself. Put the talent & labour in, get the rewards. That is why I am OK with freely sharing stuff with those that appreciate it, & object to those that profit financially from others efforts.
🙂
December 27, 2018 at 4:46 PM #897548there is just one major difference there, Modding games is free, not illegal, and, depending which game developer it is, even supported by them, that's why today the elder scrolls skyrim for example still is massively modded and played today, and why it has been a huge success ever since.
Steam once had the grand idea of trying to make mods a payed something for skyrim, but there has been a massive revolt and backlash towards it, after 2 days, the entire platform was shut down.
With Daz, we are talking about stuff that costs money, and sometimes, especially with those Pro character bundles, costing over the $100.
having that everything for free, is great, but since i do have that for free, there is also just 1 thing that i keep in the back of my head, i don't have the rights to sell my renders and work for any real profit. Why? because i hold no license to do so since i got it all for free.
I also do enjoy art etc, but if there are ways for me where i can at least give back something to Daz3D and their creators, i will.
December 27, 2018 at 5:18 PM #897575either way, i also feel you are talking about the 'other modding' thing, creating cheats etc for games.
I have been there, and done that, even managed to fiddle my way as a moderator, and later administrator of not 1, but 2 of the most popular GTA V 'Mod menu's' that could be used back than, i had those for free.
Later on, started to create my own mod menu for the game with somebody, while we were both very well aware what the coincidences are, we did it anyway, but never had the idea to sell it. I talked with many poeple in that circle, learned alot, but eventually, since one of them was heavy revolting against me for creating a 'free' cheat for the game, i told them, wait and see what will eventually happen if you charge money for a cheat, if you think that you guys are immortal and untouchable, you are wrong.
They laughed and made a joke out of me, and the guy i was creating it with, but, what goes around, comes around.
About a year or so, i decided to check up on things again, when a article popped up, those guys i once talked to, those that once laughed and made a joke out of me and that guy i made the menu with, got shut down, and hard.
Not only that, they were forced to give their earnings they gained from it, to a good cause, fail to do so, and they would eventually just get drained of eveything they have, because you can't fight a company that has millions, and every right to take action against you.
You can only agree to it, never touch cheats again, or have anything to do with it, and carry on with your life for your own sake.
Point is, i and the guy i was working with, long disbanded by now, had done the right thing, and the last laugh.
December 27, 2018 at 6:53 PM #897671It is true that you really can't please all the people all the time.
By adding or changing anything away from the original file you get folk kicking off about it. If it is modified in anyway to 'catch' feeloaders, it really acheives very little, if anything, IMO.
Promotional material included goes into the same boat, although it might be of marginal benefit to the site.
At the end of the day things are uploaded here for free & they are going to appear at other sites in short order in any case. That cuts both ways too.For the record though, since KAT exploded & I landed here, this is the only place I ever upload to.
I do download from other similar sites as well & buy my share of stuff to boot.December 27, 2018 at 7:22 PM #897707Anonymous

Also,to point out you have to have an account through qtyfiles in or to download and you have to pay for that.
December 27, 2018 at 7:28 PM #897711Not from any site I download from. 🙂
December 27, 2018 at 8:09 PM #897748The complaint is that the admins or an admin may have other free site(s?) that they run using stuff from here? My reaction... So?
Why would anyone begrudge them trying to make a buck? This is a niche market - not one generating millions of hits a month. Don't the admins deserve being paid for setting up a site and doing the actual work? I looked into setting up a similar site, and the income on such a low volume hit site was not worth it to me, especially when you consider constant maintenance.
The revenue generated from this site cannot be much. If they created other sites to generate more money then I would give a thumbs up and say 'You go girl! Work it!"... errr (just binge watched RuPaul Drag Race, sorry) or whatever accolade applies.
If I am looking for an item, I go to what is probably one of their other sites first. It's way... I mean, WAY prettier of a site. IMHO this site sucks visually and I come here primarily to participate in the forums but I do post items here to help out.
I have tons of points and often give some to new people when they post a render I admire. I hope to run a contest in a month or so.
I like seeing what people are making. Daz forums are (to me) like living in 1950s censorship, and another free site have visited is mostly dick and va-j-j pics. This place has a nice balance, I only wish more people participated in the forums.
December 27, 2018 at 8:27 PM #897758Yes, it would be nice if more discussion was generated.
Participation is important at what ever level you are able IMO.🙂
December 27, 2018 at 9:12 PM #897804To me, the point isn't about whether posts made here get shared at other sites. That's inevitable. I guess what I'm concerned about is what happens with the queued items waiting to be approved. If you've been here a while, and you have lots of points, perhaps what happens with the items is of little consequence. But if you're just starting out like myself, points are more important. And if what you've posted has been fleeced and is sitting on another site for hours before yours is approved, it's harder to get the points. Furthermore, it looks like you've just taken something from another site and posted here instead of it being the other way around.
It would be nice if whoever is taking the items from the queue to wait until they get approved here to post them on other sites. It may be a wait of just a few hours or so, but it would provide more incentive for beginners to share their collections more, I think.
December 27, 2018 at 9:14 PM #897807A valid point. 🙂
December 28, 2018 at 1:10 AM #8979701. Even when the stuff you share here is shared on other sites, that doesn't mean it won't sell here - I usually expect my stuff to become available at 3D... about 2 minutes after I share it here, and that's fine - I still make points off of it
2. The "stuff in the mod-queue" appears on other sites have been an issue for quite a while - I dunno if the admins, or mods do this (note that mods can also see the "pending" posts before they go live) - and I don't really care. This site doesn't cost anything, and it probably doesn't make money at all - at least not much. If they can pull stuff in via ads and stuff on other site, so be it.
3. This is still one of the better places for content - 3d-stuff are assholes, TopGFX are... well, assholes as well, and so on. This is pretty much the only decent place, with an actual community.
December 28, 2018 at 1:46 AM #898003The term 'Approved' suggests someone could deny the release. This alone should make one realise something naferious is abound. Has any release been dissaproved?. Think you will find Approved is a means to spread before anyone else can, a head start so to speak.
IMO once you upload anything to the internet, then the no1 rule is there is no rule, and niether should there be....get used to it or stop uploading...simple.
The Hypocrisy is astounding.
December 28, 2018 at 4:01 AM #898102What I do find most annoying is when those pay pirate sites get into a huff and ban folk for doing what the rest of the community are constantly doing.
