Im under the impression that Poser 12 tries to contact home every so often and if it can not do so, it renders itself useless. Is this true and if so does this (https://zonegfx.com/poser-12-for-windows/) have a way around this feature?
I've had lots of different versions of Poser in the past but not any of the newer ones. I blocked them in my firewall and they still worked, but phone-home might be something new to the more recent versions. This is the first I've heard of such a thing.
PS - I'm more worried that Daz can somehow see my runtime and all the stuff I've never bought from them LOL.Before downloading this software here (https://zonegfx.com/), check:

Agreed, big-time. Poser was, long ago, an application well worth pirating, but that stopped being true after DAZ Studio got real popular (around Poser 7 or so?) Before then, yes, I dare say that Poser was one of the most widely-pirated CG apps, right behind 3DSMax + the C-DILLA crack.
I was tempted to d/l and give Poser 12 a bang, but they either kept that clunky desktop-wasting Bryce-like user interface, or I'll have to spend a ton of time learning a whole new one. Neither option sounds very appealing, TBT.
Maybe if I was just that bored, but nah... besides, I hear that getting DAZ Studio stuff to work in Poser is a rather convoluted process.
PS: DAZ doesn't care what you have on your hard drive or runtime. As a company, they're too small to have the resources to really catalogue it all, let alone act on anything suspicious to them. You still have to manually click on something for it to call in and check for a newer version of itself.
Like @ethiopia said, if you're that worried, put in a small personal firewall, or better yet, use the built-in one to block apps from phoning home. (that was for Windows. MacOS has similar, I believe.)
