I would like to fix a problem i have with a pair of lips from a model. Here is a picture
(area showed highlighted by blue arrow)

When the default natural texture is applied it does not cover the top of the lips and looks odd.
When lip stick is applied the problem is fixed because it gets hidden. However I dont want to use lipstick. I want to have natural looking lips.
There is a similar problem with some models from DTG. You can see some where the top of the lip doesn't sit right when applied to the face.
Here is good example of their work where they also have bad lips that dont cover the lips when it is applied to face.

I would like to either repair the lips by perhaps cloning some lip across to cover the bad area or find another set of natural lips from another model and cut and paste then over the old lips.December 18, 2019 at 5:41 PM #1383109From what i could understand from what you showed us, it seem that the artist who created that skin texture purposely made it so the character's lip style had a natural deep lower philtrum.

If you have an appropriate lips/face morph that deal with philtrum, you can always try to play with it to see if it can solve your problem in a satisfactory way for you.
If not, i'm afraid you'll have to use your creative finger and open the jpeg texture file and toy with it like you suggested at the end of you post.
It's not ideal, unless you have artistic pro talent in texture drawing. But since it's a really really small part you have to edit, if your edit is close enought to the look of the current lips, it wont be noticable.
What i would do if i were you, is trying to copy a little section of the current top lip of the texture file and paste it on another layer in you picture editing program. Try after that to place it and alter it in a way the lips part you pasted look credibly to fill the hole you want to cover.
Good luck!
December 19, 2019 at 8:46 PM #1384849The main concern for me is right smack bang in the middle of the top lip.
Where the top middle of the lip gets pulled down to create that heart shape.
You can see clearly that there is no pink lip colour and instead its a skin colour.
Looks very odd when you zoom in just like i have shown in the last pic.
Even when the texture is applied to the very shape of the models face that the texture came with, the lips still don't look right. I can't believe that the creator didn't see the problem. And to top it off they have since used the same texture on other models that show the same problems with the lips. Its one of those moments where i shake my head and think how can they NOT see that there is a problem.
I am not a good photoshopper but recently i am starting to get to learn it more for exactly this type of problem that i face now and then.
Its just trying getting the right kind of blend going so its not noticeable. I have been practicing with copies of the lip texture and trying different things. I am very fussy, i may just end up not using the texture. You can see that the quality of the original face texture was not great to start with. -
