Is there some reason they dont show that number? People who dont have nvidia cards like me prefer products with low poly count in order to get decent render times. Any trick to finding out the poly count of a product?
January 22, 2022 at 7:21 AM #1769272As for characters, they all use the same base Genesis 8 Model, so the poly count is the same depending on how much it is subdivided.
January 22, 2022 at 7:39 AM #1769273It's for the same reason Daz Corp don't show date of release, or how many MB a product is or have a standarised lighting environment for their promo images. Not good for profit margins.
It's hard to come across many other commercial sites that are so intent on hiding crucial details about their products from their clients. And hard to find sites with clients so willing and ready to lap it up without complaint.
Probably the reason why I'm a pirate, apart from saying arrrrr whenever the need strikes me, arrrrr me hearties.January 22, 2022 at 8:07 AM #1769277I think i saw poly counts in unreal store but daz is doing its own thing. I want to see poly counts for various stuff, mainly hair.
There are some vendors out there who optimize their products and use as few polygons as possible. Those products i buy. Its my pat in the back for them.
Seriously though daz should step up their game. Feels like they dont care or arent able to get their act together
January 22, 2022 at 8:17 AM #1769281I agree. For objects and add-ons such as hair, it would be helpful. Unlike Unreal, Daz's character models are an attempt to be proprietary as opposed to what's best for being creative
January 22, 2022 at 10:41 AM #1769324@frank22, That is half false. In a text editor, like notepad++ in my case, you can see the date of every asset. If it's compressed, you can use dsf tools, or 7zip itself.
This is from the "saxophone prop and poses":"file_version" : "0.6.0.0",
"asset_info" : {
"id" : "/data/Protozoon/HD%20Saxophone%20and%20Poses/Saxophone/Saxophone.dsf",

January 22, 2022 at 10:45 AM #1769327Yes, but that would be after you have bought the product.

January 22, 2022 at 10:53 AM #1769329One of the things I find least inspiring is that Daz does not allow customer reviews.
Also it would be handy if the customer knew when a sales discount promotion ends.

January 22, 2022 at 4:24 PM #1769394Yeah, artists should make their products available to everyone. Old pc games were able to run on a variety of pcs, even the slowest as opposed to today. Daz products should be the same.
Lower poly count means more sales

That’s exactly right. More than anything, it’s what I constantly bitch about. Things that would only increase their sales and reputation. Their sales strategy defies common sense. A review thread would only improve their models. At the very least, an image of the mesh and/or basic information of their models would only be useful. Making their characters hard to customize so you’ll buy their morphs doesn’t increase sales. The same people would still buy those morphs and characters. Removing those restrictions and making them more compatible would only help enthusiasm, usefulness, increase their presence and grow their community. In this regard, it’s one disappointment after another. When it comes to their customers, they can’t see the forest for the trees in trying to be exclusiveJanuary 22, 2022 at 5:38 PM #1769424I agree that poly count should be included, and asset size.
For the release date, it is in the 'readme' of each product. A link to this readme is added to the product page by the daz-deals addon (with other very useful information like for instance a list of the forum threads referencing the product). Also in the readme, you have the file list and I always look at that before installing any char or pose set to know the number of morphs that are added by the asset.
At rendo, at least, the file size and the readme with the release date and file list, are present by default.
But I wish the poly count was also considered as a required information.January 22, 2022 at 6:12 PM #1769462A few days ago, I downloaded "Kui Joy Bundle", because of the character's eyes. And the reality is that they are not so pretty. "Render magic..." could be defined, and marketing fascination.
The worst thing is that it includes a garbage called "Cute and Simple Outfit for Genesis 8.1 Female". Only in infamous textures, it's already about 700 MB! Luckily it was a "simple" outfit! I deleted both.
I don't think polygons are bad, that's what the "Decimator" plugin is for. I even increase them in FBX bridges, like the ones from "DazTo...", which export only "base" resolutions. Another thing is the "secret" Dhdm format, which is oversized and encrypted.
Normally, I export in Alembic HDF5 (the old plugin, not the Sagan with Ogawa support, which loses the UV's.) to Cinema 4D r19 or Maya. (Blender only supports Ogawa..)
It is "Daz" and its policy, but as Eelgoo says, "buy first, and we will never give you your money back". 😀January 22, 2022 at 6:44 PM #1769475I would much rather have a well optimised product.
Filesize bloat has been an issue especially with Daz output for some time.
Some hair products are 500MB - 1Gig compressed!
Sometimes the issue lies in the morphs, sometimes the textures.
...and yet on the other side of the coin there are other vendors who can put out acceptable quality at around the 100MB mark.January 22, 2022 at 7:02 PM #1769496 -
