    POLL - Which Skin MAT, And Why - WIP [NNSFW & DNSFW]

    Of the following two skin materials, which would you "choose", and why?

    Skin_Comp_A_01_NNSFW
    Skin_Comp_A_02_NNSFW
    ("Not Necessarily Safe For Work")

    Skin_Comp_B_01_DNSFW
    Skin_Comp_B_02_DNSFW
    ("Definitely Not Safe For Work" - for full skin comparison if/as needed)

    Please choose one (between 01 and 02). State reason(s) why, if you would. Aesthetics, realism, "tone", "fits the scene better/worse", whatever you choose to include. Keep it brief or don't.
    Fine to "like them both for different reasons", or "dislike them both completely", but please ultimately choose only one.

    Not a test. No right answer. Strictly an opinion-based poll for a WIP.
    Thanks in advance for input.

    (Info: Scene, lighting and and char is identical. Only the skin materials differ. FHD w/no DOF test-renders only @ 1000 samples for cursory skin comparisons. Higher res versions increase sharpness only, no change in tone. No postwork.)
    (Additional information about skin source(s)/artist(s) withheld until post-poll, in order to keep opinions unaffected by any pop or political factor.)

    Hello, by my own, i do prefer the 1rst, the "main" reason is, on the second i feel the "under feet" too red. beside it, the "white" ton of her skin is pretty lovly and suit her well.

    Thanks for the input @serge2804. The feet blush is actually an addon in the form of a diffuse overlay and displacement map, and not native to the original skin shader. (The extra red is also intentional via same. Often I find the soles on feet maps to be bland, less rosy, even sickly and less realistic. After finding this addon map I admittedly took it past a point, but enjoy the difference and will keep it to get across the idea of high blood circulation and health. It reminds me of a dancer's feet after a workout.)(The settings are the same for both renders, btw. It's the underlying skin map that makes it look different in each, respectively.) Over time I may tone it down depending on the circumstance. But thanks for the first impressions.

    Gorgeous. I prefer the 2nd one bc the first one looks like she has sunburn across her eyes/forehead.

    I find 2 better. Her neck bones cope better. Overall, the skin looks more natural. And yes their foot soles are more realistic to me.

    It really depends if you want her to be a paler skin (2) or a warmer tone (1)

    IMO Both are pretty good.

    🙂

    @eelgoo Both have merits to me as well. Tone, pale, all of it. Mostly considering quality and consistency of given skin MAT/Settings in the given lighting environment, which would better to not be changed.

    (Original concept/inspiration/reference is here, for example.)(I sometimes challenge myself with IRL lighting ideas and see if I can emulate or reproduce in DS. A test of the platform and the user, or both, I've found.)

    Main reasoning: If something is appealing to most, or many, maybe it has a similar appeal to the masses. Might be skin. Might be tone or SSS. Regardless, the test is between the two skin-MAT & settings. Not the scene/lighting. (To be sure.)

    @makemodus
    Thank you. I felt something slightly similar, but will reserve full judgement until after poll.

    @lucafeelgood
    Thank you for the confidence vote on the soles. (I feel I'm crazy sometimes that realistic tones in soles and extremities are ignored in skin MATs.)(Again, separate from overall in this case, but details can be everything, I often experience.)

    Open to other interpretations, participations, explanations at will.
    Trying to decide on a direction to pursue, and numbers matter.

    @spats

    Your character should appear as you perceive her to be, not from the vote of a popularity contest. 😉

    Does she have pale skin or not?

    🙂

    @eelgoo Does she have pale skin or not?

    While I appreciate the inner-vision encouragement. It has less to do with the shade or pale of the skin, than the quality. Honestly. Answer: TBD
    I've envisioned both as acceptable (see reference photo, for example). But, like say, there are merits to both - regardless of "pale" or no.
    Quality, and desired perception, in general, in given lighting environment, really the reason for the poll.

    That said, and based on skin tonal-quality (or not), I hope the voting continues for a minute (acquiescing to an understandable holiday-consumed-timing)(myself included - wine and beer is fine, on the holiday time-line, hic)(Might've waited till after, but what's the fun in that)(Drunken opinions at LEAST as important as the sober ones, if not more - hah, wheee).
    Happy Holidays Everybody! (too lazy/inebriated to look for cheers emoji)

    [Edit: Wait, is it possible you're having the same problem deciding that I am? (...Mini Me pinky emoji)]

    Edit/Update: I guess I should clarify on the "tone" concept and comment. In encouraging tone opinions in original, I guess I was referring to overall tone, not necessarily specific color tone of the skin. (For example, the color tone of each example could be changed - with simple increase or decrease in transmitted color saturation, for example - without altering the overall quality of the skin MAT or output render.) Sorry for any confusion.

    If you can rework the lighting that is casting a shadow/band across her eyes in the first version then I would actually prefer the first one as her body tone looks more real. The clavical bone on the second version is far too accentuated and giving it a weird anatomically weird look. But just based purely on skin, without the above adjustments, the second one looks more complete in my eyes.

    Sorry for the flip flop feedback 😉

    @makemodus The lighting will likely stay the same for now, as testing the skins on their own merits is the main focus of this exercise right now. (Via a shortlist of "testbeds" I'm trying various skins to see how they stand up without altering scenes.)(This scene is one of them, for example.) If anything is lacking between skins, then it's a deficiency or anomaly in the skin MAT - or ultimately will be determined as such (at least in this particular test).
    The clavicle wrinkle you speak of was actually intentional (to get close to the effect of the original model - linked image). It was achieved via some neck bending. I may back that off as well, as I'm not completely impressed with the extra of it, myself, and it could use less accenting and more smoothing so as not to be an eyesore, agreed.

    Don't be sorry, this kind of feedback is precisely what I was looking for. (And I, myself, am flip-flopping between these, and so the mental debate.) The reasons why something doesn't work can't always be seen in the originator's eyes. As has been said here before, by staring too long at a thing, sometimes judgement and perspective is skewed. Help of fresh eyes can be an important part of the process. Thanks for input.

    So which skin is this? Is this is same skin you used on the image for the splash page winner?

    @joeyjojoshaboob The figures in this post were different projects from the Pinup Contest entry. The character morphs here are identical custom configurations between models. And as mentioned in the post, the lighting is also identical. Only the Skin/MATs differ between renders. The first skin in this post ("Skin_Comp_A_01_NNSFW" and nude version "Skin_Comp_B_01_DNSFW") was/is a modified version of D3D Katya. The second skin in this post ("Skin_Comp_A_02_NNSFW" and nude version "Skin_Comp_B_02_DNSFW") was/is an edited and modified version of S-Art's Olesya.

    (The character for the Pinup Contest was another more modified series of morphs, and the skin there was also S-Art's Olesya, but with more customization and experimentation performed specifically for outdoor HDRI lighting, and the addition of freckle LIE maps - customized/edited - from Ultimate Freckles.)

    Like the way the skin reacts with the light
