    Lately, I'm trying to improve, so I'm rendering a lot. I'm sharing this one because I want honest feedback and I spent a couple of hours on it. I was very pleased with the critiques of the one with beasts/dogs/wolves, I feel like it helped me grow. I can share the pre-PS version of it too if it helps. You can take the image and edit it, mark on it, add your comments...

    At first glance this looks pretty good!

    Though I do apologize in advance for any observations I am about to make.

    - For me the image suffers because you simply cannot see her feet, it feels incomplete.

    Hair. Hair can be a royal pain!
    - I love what you've done with her hair over her right wrist, getting it to drape either side of her wrist is impressive.
    - Getting a few loose strands falling down her left hand is impressive too.
    - The hanging hair on the right of the image seems to be at the wrong angle to me.

    Textures.
    - For a girl that's not wearing makeup, he face seems a little waxy(?)
    - Her knees look almost bruised. (I know it's a factor of the textures used).

    Hum, you're right. Should I cut the image higher or include her feet?

    The hair is amazing, almost no postwork.

    I agree too about the textures. Maybe I can downplay the red-violet hue postwork... or add a bandaid :D. The waxiness not sure I can do anything postwork. I'll try to play with the textures... Any ideas?

    Only cut the image if you want a portrait shot, otherwise show her feet.

    Which hair is it?

    It'll be difficult to adjust that red-violet hue in Daz without it affecting the character as a whole, maybe some work on the textures in Photoshop?

    The waxiness might be adjusted, if you just select her face in the surfaces tab and play around with glossiness, specular and ambient possibly...

    In photoshop try cutting her face out then try some adjustments, then blend them in by changing the blend layer. Just erase what you don't need with a soft edged brush.

    Curves - Ctrl+M
    Colour Balance - Ctrl+B
    Hue/Saturation - Ctrl+U
    Image>Adjustments>Variations

    Very good render indeed.

    I hope I'm not spamming your thread but I'd just like to point out a few things that may help you by adding a partially rendered image + some info.

    Lighting: No need to complicate matters, a simple HDRI in the background can give amazing results.

    Skin: If you're unhappy with the results I suggest trying a texture from another doll. I've notice some supposed Asian textures don't do the character they were created for any justice.

    Hair: A pain for many. If you have or can get Zbrush you can use GOZ in DS and export your doll with the hair prop attached. By doing this you create a new morphs not provided by the vendor using the 'Move tool' in Zbrush. It really is a simple task. (I might post some lessons one of these days)

    DS Rendering quality: See Sickyield's tutorials on DA.

    Posing and morph tweaks in DS: Facial expressions and eye movements can make a huge difference, so can making sure dolly isn't hovering above the ground.
    Morphs may also need adjusting (See my image as an example)

    Have you tried using dforce on the hair? I've been doing that lately, in some cases it works great. Rayvn Bob Hair works great. Just as an example. Though when you do it, turn off dforce sim on everything but the character and the hair (including eyelashes and other high poly small objects, offfff) It's trial and error, but dforce seems really good with hair, also run in it good mode first, not better or best, they seem to produce more overhead, and explode more. Try with smoothing on and off. It produces pretty life like results.

    @norbertz, you're not spamming the thread at all. For this render, I have a hdri and a spotlight, that's all. I rendered them and combined them in PS.

    For the texture, I think the problem is that she's missing a good normal map. To be honest though, I'm not playing with textures much and I'm not sure where to start. Maybe you know some tutorials? And I would love to see Zbrush lessons. Modeling is a complete mystery for me.

    @aftyrbyrn, it's funny that you mentionned that because this afternoon I played a bit with dforce. In this render, I used it for the shirt and I'm pretty pleased with the results. I haven't try dforce for the hair but I downloaded the Dforce Master for hair thingy. My system is an old thing, but for dforce simulations, it's still good.

    Overall, I'm pleased with the hair, just the left side near her neck that needs to be rotated a bit for a more natural feel. It's an overlook and I'll change it.

    For the partial render I posted the texture was from DYYS's Joyce Yung character.
    It was only one of two textures I found worthy of using on Asian characters.

    Some good lighting can be found on the Zone. I highly recommend light probes by Dimension Theory. The results can be truly outstanding.

    Your render looks great but (IMO) would benefit from a floor and wall plane.
    for indoor scenes. Then you can add some shaders or HDRI's to your liking.
    Unless you're using props of course, which you are 🙂

    I'll post some small tutorials in the coming days regarding morphs and tweaking between DS and Zbrush.

    As for the real expert on DS I suggest heading over to DA and sinking your teeth into Sickyields tutorials. She's so helpful 🙂
